Hi Skuki:
Where are you now with the building of the 1:350 Nagato? Any new photos?

Your answer will depend on what you use: enamels or acrylic paints...Robin wrote:Just got the Hasegawa 1/350 IJN Nagato kit. Looking for suggestion on what paints/brands and correct colors to use for this kits.
Thanks!
If you use enamels, and are airbrushing, I recommend White Ensign's Colorcoats line of paints (personally, I don't like how they brush on). If you page back through this thread, I believe there is mention of the correct color for the Hasegawa kit. I want to say Kure Grey, but it's been a long week and my head really hurts right now, so I could be wrong.

Hi,
Got Hasegawa's Nagato A,B and deluxe frets today. Looks perfect all but one thing is made me very very bad. For ladders, set supplies only handrail parts of ladders. Steps of ladders has to be stay as they are, like Aztec Tempels

Yes, and they are very very tricky to handle, one time bending in the wrong direction and rebending...you have a good chance to have pieces. Better to use LionRoar, the set is much better as on the homepage of LionRoar, there railing and many many parts are missing there , and they make the impression that its only a conversion to 1944, but its a full set ,with the possible conversion to 1944 and its really complete.
I know, the price; in USA 200$ , in Europe 150.....order it in Asia direct, there its much much cheaper. Another extreme good set is from WEM, but its only etched parts without brassbarrels.
Best regards
Marc

Re: Calling all IJN Nagato /what is to do for a 44th fitting
Hello,
maybe you can help me.
Following I build the IJN Nagato in 1/350 from Hasegawa. Moreover I use LionRoars`s set. My goal is it the 1941 fitting to make to 44th fitting but I am not sure what is to do!
My main problem are bull`s eyes of the hull. The reason: My source (Aj Prss) shows Nagoto in October with closed bull`s eyes. Only the first row the bow is open. U cannot see any covers or so on. For the model, it would means that the bull`s eyes have to close.
Now I saw at the Gallery following very nice built nagato: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html
It shows covers, like on this images: http://www.geocities.com/jwarship/Nagat ... ndered.jpg or this: http://www.maritimequest.com/warship_di ... page_1.htm
What is correct for 44th???

hi theremoritzk wrote:What is correct for 44th???
You can follow Jeff Lins Nagato as a guide that model of his is accurate in the way she looked in 1944, when you say bulls eyes on the hull you referring to the portholes right?. If you are well those portholes were sealed, they were completely shut with metal caps to minimize inside damage. I dont have the AJ Press book i do have the 3D Nagato book and even though all it has are computer rendered images is a good reference book, it shows the ship in different times from 20s to 1946, if you decide to buy it try HobbyLinkJapan i bought mine there i promise you you wont be disappointed with it. hope this helps

Re: Calling all IJN Nagato class fans
I am building parts of my Nagato and have a question. I am not sure of the assembly order. I am using the Hasegawa photoetch and currently assembling the smoke stack. The question is when do you normally paint the structure.
The top of the stack is flat black. Do I completely build the stack, spray the grey and then hand paint the flat black. Assembly and painting order has always been a problem for me. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ir3

Re: Calling all IJN Nagato class fans
I might suggest, if you wanted the crispest line possible, to do the stack cap seperately by hand, assemble the rest of the stack, spray it, and then fix the cap in place. That's what I do, keeps the risk of overrun to a dead minimum.

Caught Jerry's Nagato live at the NATS. Excellent work. He's done his research.
