Higher Levels of Detail

Hi All!

This is my first post, so please be gentle! I've been doing some pretty basic modelling for a while, and i'm trying to get a little bit more advanced, particularly with respect of detail. I've been looking around at various versions of the Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher Class that others have done to get some ideas. I particularly liked the excellent work of Peter Van Buren in his DD-484 build (http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html). Can anyone tell me some of the techniques he used to achieve this awesome level of detail? I'm especially interested in railings, ladders/rope storage, and weathering techniques. These little touches just add so much, and it's a level a detail i'm hoping to work towards.

Also, slightly off topic, I have to say it was great to find a community offering so much fantastic advice. I've gleaned so many good ideas just by reading the forum. So I guess a general note of thanks to you all!

indeed, i am also a newcomer in this forum. i come from china. i am

exactly in english.
practice makes perfect!i thought the wonderful detail is derive

form large amount of practical works.
1:700 waterline is my most favourite.you know that the part of

1:700 waterline is very small. especially the photo-etch. so the

patience is very important. previously the pe drives me go mad all

the time, but my effort and other's advices make a big progress in

my modeling.
now, i plan to build HMS Rodney in 1941.

Thanks for that. With so many techniques around, experimentation has to be the best way to go. And your English is quite understandable!
