Re: Fire on Marshal Shaposhnikov
Shaposhnikov is nearly 23 years old and even in a well maintained navy that's old for a front line vessel.

Re: Fire on Marshal Shaposhnikov
The frequency of major accidents aboard Russian warships seems to be much higher than what is seen in foreign warships of similar age, despite the fact that Russian warships generally spend much less time at sea than is considered optimal elsewhere. The impression of poor state of equipment and indifferent operator proficiency is hard to avoid.

Let us not gloat too heavily, with our own recent CVN fire travails and shameful operating conditions on a couple of Burkes. I will agree, though, that the Soviets seem to have more of 'em than Western navies do.The impression of poor state of equipment and indifferent operator proficiency is hard to avoid.

Re: Fire on Marshal Shaposhnikov
Not gloating. I think we also keep a much larger naval force than we could keep in top condition.
