Got some questions though...

Will there be an airwing???

Has there been any work done on any other part of the ship such as the superstructure?? (if yes can we see some pics??)

Was it difficult to find the necessary references and designs???

How about a budget? (if possible or aggreable)

first rule of building.....never build anything larger than you can transport. Saw four guys arguing about a huge scale C-130 Hercules build a lot of years ago about how many pieces they were going to have to break it down into for transportation. Thought of that one still makes me laugh.

Well it can be transported as you see it on my car and it has traveled in this state over 1200km so far. Might get a bit more difficult when work is further along but I will cross that bridge when I get that far. It will eventually travel inside a box and I plan to modify my car with a bar over the bonnet of my car to support the bow of the ship.

Will there be an airwing??? Yes but I will change it from time to time, 1 will be a normal operation day, 2 Heavy weather operations day, 3 Naval review day, and 4 display day. This way I can always have something new for people to look at. I might even put a what the hell day when I have a real mix match on board the model. I belong to IPMS Sydney and can readily get all types of model aircraft.
As for the superstructure I did try to construct a basic type but destroyed it because the dimensions were wrong. I need to draw it up first before I can build that part of the ship
Don't forget I really don't have plans for this ship I have to draw them first and check with the trumpeter kit and photos first befor I really build anything.

How about a budget? Well so far the cost has been around $600 AUD (Australian Dollars) (This includes the cost of the airwing) but I have still stuff to construct right up to the deck so there is very little cost from now till the guts of the ship need to be put in, RC and motors and others. The model aircraft cost so far around $150 AUD The budget so far also must show this money has been spent over 2 years so far on the ship and I first started acquiring the aircraft about 3 to 4 years ago.

Bah nothing of the sort, I say if your going nuts don't stop half way ....

By the way still sanding the hull, Hope to finish this part before christmas so that I can start on the hanger deck and maybe some of the guts of the ship.

Hey Mick, why chip the foam out? Why not pour some acetone in and melt the stuff?

Yes it is easy to melt the foam but I also have a layer of plaster and this would become an even
bigger mess that if I were to just lift it out. Also if I can lift it out I may use it for the next model,
Maybe the Kirov Class.

Yes there are 2 lifts which I hope to make work. Also if there are funds I hope to have radars working and chopper blades turning (this is a tough one counter rotating blades) and a few rockets to launch also the panels behind where the aircraft launch from to raise and lower. Just to name a few things I hope to make work eventually. Might even give the life boats a separate rc unit after lower into water. But this is the future project lets get on with the hull first.

I plan to sink part of the ship but also have a few car batteries for power to the motors. The size of the boat will be hard to handle alone but I hope to design the model to keep it light as possible.

Today I fixed a hole I sanded into the hull near the stern of the model. Got to eager with the belt sander. No worries, I put fiberglass on the inside of the hull after I removed the last 2 sections of foam in the hull so I have a clear look at the damage. I am very happy when the foam and plaster have come out so far, Nice and clean. The hull is really taking shape now and I have started to mark out where the waterlines are and where I need to cut for the side sponsons. Also working on the stern of the model for all the parts that need to be cut into the hull there. Got to be careful here one mistake here could be very bad.
This weekend (22nd/23rd November 2008) is a run for Taskforce 72 and I hope to be able to take my model up for display but only if the weather holds out, I don't plan to go in the wet weather with a model that hangs over both ends of my car.

Ok people here are a few of the latest more next year. Going away for christmas so no work will be done for a few weeks. I have been sanding the hull and working on the stern of the ship. I used an empty CD holder in these images and as you can see it worked fine. Next will be the landing area.




There was some warpage with the hull so I will have to fix it before it gets to bad. I cut the hull here and will try to fix as I progress.

This image also gives you an idea how big the stern area is. That is a 3L empty bottle of milk!!!
I hope I have enough room in the hull to work with....
Also the line you see is the line for the twin rudders.

I hope you all had a safe Christmas and New Years party.
Anyhow I am aware its quite cold in Europe right now so there isn't much going on there and here in Sydney we just had 3 days over 38 degree Celsius or 100.4 degree Fahrenheit!!!
Glad its a lot cooler today, anyway down to what been happening here.
In the last post you saw I started work on the stern of the ship with the lower deck. Today I tried to finish it and almost did it. Maybe next week I will get it done.

I needed to clamp the area to stop any warping, but when all was done I noticed some air bubles and hope tomorrow when I check out my work its not to bad.

No worries there is always putty and boy is this model going to use some.

Hiya all. Well it happened again, I hit a snag in construction.While I took my model out for a show to Taskforce 72 I found that the stern of my model was weak near the stern. I have since found a few more spots in the model so I have had to reinforce the hull. I've put 2 bulkheads in place and found that it has helped quite a bit. My next step over the next few days is to put a flowcoat over the outside of the hull. When this is complete and dried I get back to sanding then comes the fun of digging out the rest of the foam. But I'm getting ahead of myself now. So here are a few more pictures of the current work.
