1/72 Yamato - or a steep learning curve!

As posted elsewhere, this Forum has given me the courage to tackle a lifetime dream -building a very big Yamato.
I wont in anyway claim to be particularily skilled or knowledgable at this game -but I am patient, am detirmined, and am very keen to learn as I go -I think the journey -as long as it takes, will be great fun.
Project will be pretty slow compared to many -(financials!!) -and Navy job will keep me away a bit.
Our House got smashed in a huge thunderstorm (hail softball size) -and at the end I found myself with a destroyed chook shed
So I rebuilt it thinking model trains
Built shed - looked at trains on U tube -and was left cold.
Looked here -and the excitement was there.
So -after surfing around -ordered the plans , and have begun the journey

Construction underway -nothing glued yet
1/100 plans expanded to 1/72
I am using 12mm ply for frames

(I have already made an amazing discovery. Every time I went to the hardware shop the wife would frown when i bought something. Now when i say -I need this tool to do this with the project -hey presto -purchace approved! Ill get 2nd great dream out of this -a small lathe and fully fitted workshop too as time goes on!)

Wife fully supportive of the project.

This is one amazing project and you have the support of your wife!!! 1:72 seems to be the scale RC modellers are turning to . ARH ,Duane . Kiwi Medics Bismarck , Mick's Kuznetzov and now a Yamato . The winter months aren't going to be that bad alfter all. Please keep us all poster on you progress.
Question What drawings are you using ? Will the hull be GRP ? And finally I do indeed wish you luck!

I am using Loyalhanna dockyard plans - they were ever so helpful! - 1/100 though - the reaction at the printing shop was interesting!

It will be GRP ( I have friends in my Church who actually manufacture GRP resin -so real experts to call on when I get there)

It was so deeply satisfying today to cut timber!

That is one big model.
A very straight bench is the answer.
Take your time with the frame set up, if it is nice and straight the rest will be too.

Wish you luck... Patience is a virtue... A 1/72 Yamato requires a lot of virtue though

Bow looks wonky in the photo -but it's OK - plan to use expanding foam to fill in, then to sand and smooth.
I am using also a 1/200 nichimo yamato as a guide -will build it in parallel with the "real one" - built several yamatos in my time -its an obsession!

You DO have the "Anatomy of the Ship - Yamato" book, don�t you ??? If you don�t own a copy, I think it would be a good investment for you.
