I would also like to thank you for the way you have shown the various stages for making fittings. I have am currently building a 1/100 Krivak, and have been dreading making some of the fittings. Thanks to you, I have a great idea on where to start some of the tricky ones.

Hi casiterite Just glad it all helps. I must admit the lattice mast on the Krivals is a challenging part of the build .

The mounting for the RBU 6000 is quite straight forward and consists
of 5 sections of styrene per mounting ., one mounted on top the other .
2mm � 0.50mm �1.5mm . The smaller section is cut away . This is the
area were the rocket loading door is located.

The next stage once the three sections are fitted together is to insert
strengtheners as per the photo around three edges thus.

A completed mounting.

All that remains now is to locate at each corner small rod like extensions ,
purpose unknown but I�ve included them. I noted on other RBU 6000 mounting
there are eye plates in the same location. Plus the essential hinge to the loading hatch.

Remedial work still being carried out on the horseshoe ring . hope to have a corrected RBU to show by tomorrow . Messy job taking fittings apart.

I must admit this was a painful but necessary exercise. I thought I'd show
warts and all that it pays to re-visit a part of a build that is in error.
First I removed all tubes and then the mounting ring.

Each tube was removed from the tape but the mounting ring was a total loss .
The idea was to remove all the tubes and any fitting and try to salvage each tube .

With a new ring made the whole process could begin again , with each tube
and spacer being re-set .

With all the tubes in place on the horseshoe ring the tape is added and dished
into the space between each tube. { for method see previous photos}

At least the tube positions are reasonably correct . Now attention can be
given to concentrating on the remainder of the fittings. An error is an error
but these things can be corrected.

Well, ok then. I am really enjoying your build! I am very jealous. Someday, that 1/100- or maybe 1/144, Slava will happen. I've got the plans... .

Hi John I have adapted two types of trim line and both do the job. First the trim line I have used on the RBU fitting goes under the name of "Scotch Masking Tape" and as you see in the photo comes with a varied number of widths. It is manufactured in the US but is readily available in the UK. The other type mentioned goes under the name of "Trim Line Self Adhesive Coach Line" and is marketed by a company under the name of "Model Technics" The later has a gloss surface and needs to be rubbed with flour paper or some other fine abrasive , to provide a good key for paint. Hope this clarifies. The Scotch Tape is available from a stationers and the later Trim Line from most model outlets. The Model Technics product was originally produced for R/C aircraft .

The RBU 6000 is almost completed just a small amount of work to be done on the
end of the tubes.This is where PE would have been very useful.


The next part of the sequence is to solder up and fit the fold down rails right
aft and start fitting the 6 bar walk way deck edge rails.

Oh boy that looks awesome Dave. You've managed to reproduce a very complexe mount with stunning results. Do you have to build multiple copies for the Kiev? I'm totally unfamiliar with this ship.

Hi Sylvain Thankfully only two , up forward . Once you've mastered the methodology building each RBU 6000 mounting is not as difficult as it looks. Having now , actually made 4 because I fouled up on the first two. But I've learned that PE is the way to go to reproduce the fine detail of the firing machanisim at the end of each tube .
