Wish I was as good at building models when I was 13. I might be really good by now.
Have fun, Monkey around. TM

For some time now I have been searching for plans for the USS Independence CV-62 through various on-line Indy organizations, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Shipyards, The Navy Historical Center and most recently the National Archives and Records Administration - Cartographic Section. I received an email today in responce to plans/drawings of the Indy and I just thought I would pass it along.
We have no plans for the USS Independence (CV-62). Pursuant to NAVSEA
Project Lookback, Executive Order 12958, National Security Information,
plans for CV-59 and follows are not releasable, even if the ship and
class are stricken.
Has anyone ever heard of this Project Lookback?

For my project I was able to find plans of the USS Ranger CV-61 circa 1978 from the Floating Drydock and USS Forrestal CV-59 from Loyalhanna Dockyard-Taubman Plans. I also have Ray Beans Forrestal CD and of course all the photos I can find on-line.

I also have been getting a lot of help from everyone on this forum and just wanted to say thanks! :thumbs_up_1:

It's rather interesting you mention the Forrestal Class were not nukes. I had heard some scuttlebutt that they aren't stripping down the Indy for a reef project or target practice but in fact are retro fitting her for backup duty in the Gulf Theater and will be recommissioned under a new name and as a full powered nuclear aircraft carrier. Of course I never put much faith in scuttlebutt. :cool_1:

I have a question for anyone who served on the USS Independence during the late 60's. A friend of mine on Xbox Live served on her during that period and had a rather bad accident when he fell down one of the elevators (allegedly). I haven't spoken to him in a while but he said he was very badly injured. If any of you served on her during this period, can you remember such an incident happening?

Good luck on your search. I have heard stories similar to this aboard Ranger & Forrestal. You may want to post this on the Yahoo Group

Hi gents,

Getting ready to paint my '68 Fujimi Kitty Hawk hull, and I have a question....

The instructions call for it to be painted Gunze H307 - FS36320 Gray. I got my hands on some, but it looks way too dark? I'm almost thinking this would be better for the hangar deck and other non flight deck veritcal surfaces.

What does everyone else use?

TIA

Bob

I think you're looking good gtb-red. Are you building strictly from photos or do you have plans?
