Calling all WWI German U-boat fans

Post by herrmill »

Does anyone know of a good source for detailed German WWI u-boat plans, specifically for the U-9 & U-31 class? Have already checked with uboat.net
& several other web-based sites without any luck.

Thanks.

WW1 Plans Needed

Post by herrmill »

I appreciate your replies. Have tried SC & all other sub-related forums including an upcoming WW1 u-boat sim, Imperial U-Flotilla 1914-1918.

Have plenty of photos - just looking for some plans with enough detail to build from.

Hello Herr Flick !

I found the following sites to be invaluable for U-boat painting:

http://uboatcolours.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/
http://uboatcolours2.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

WEM makes very good Colourcoats enamel paints for all the Kriegsmarine colours:
http://www.whiteensignmodels.com/acatal ... rs_50.html

As for individual paint schemes for the boats... depends on the boat, and the particular time in it's service you are trying to replicate.

Lets get this back on topic for those of us who like the older subs.

Matt Thor & Steve Neill are soon to release a new UB-1 kit with perhaps others to follow including a USN S-class. It would be nice to see someone such as Revell would come to market with a mass-produced kit of one of the early subs that revolutionized undersea warfare.

i suppose that the very fascination of ww1 u-boote may be its diversity and weirdness of appearance

You might try your local hobby shop to see if they can special order it, otherwise I haven't found it anywhere in the US. Distributors such as Squadron, Stevens International, and Sentai don't seem to have any Mirage stock any more.

This was the best I could do:

Hello, the maximum shipping is 18 EUR - WORLD (2kg). Shipping of one PE set from Mirage Hobby will be probably 3 or 5 EUR (for 100g or 250g package). Table with shipping rates can be found here: http://www.modelimex.com/article/postage

There is no reason to think that we would charge you 18 EUR for shipping of one small PE set :-)

Sincerely

This may not be the best place for this question, but Ill give it a shot anyway. On many photos Ive seen of German U-Boats (mostly B&W), there often is seen blotches of a light (grey?) color all over the conning tower in random fashion. Are these salt stains, or worn/chipped paint reveling primer beneath, or what?

Thanks,
Kevin

WW I U-Boats, in particular U30?

Post by C4azydog »

I see no reference to a U30 anywhere. Numbers seem to jump to U31 and the first reference to a ship called U30 isn't until WWII. Does anyone know why?
