I just ordered a set So, now I have pulled the Hornet down from the stash pile so I can go over the instructions.
Ok, what color do I paint the hangar deck floor? iirc the bulkheads/walls were white?
I'm debating on wheher or not to do a full hull or waterline yet, I want to try my hand at using the water effects plate too.

OK, here are some pics of my 1/700 Trumpy





I am adding some bits & pieces to the hangar deck as I plan to leave the doors
open. I am wondering "if" any of her air wing was hung in the overhead? If so, how would one display it? Are there any photos showing this?
Any comments, advice, etc is welcomed

However, I believe Gator based his masks on the kit instructions. IIRC, those are incorrect.

Here you go. Note the differences in the "wave" pattern on the side of the hull:

I've got another full shot of the Hornet's starboard side, but I'm not allowed to share it. If you compare the Trumpeter instructions to the rendering Paul Bender did in the Floating Drydocks Warship Damage Vol 1 on Hornet, you can see the differences.

Ok, Thank you for that info Martin. I plled out my Trumpy's painting guide & seems there's a difference to the ones you have posted here. I'm doing the 1/700 kit and according to mine (I'll try to scan & post them) I see a difference in the paint #s for the B-25s as well

The fact that you are using the 1/700 kit is a good point, Ed. These are from the 1/350 kit, so they have have corrected the painting instructions by the time they released the 700th scale kit.

However, I don't know if Gator simply scaled down the 1/350 masks to fit 1/700...

The WARSHIP PICTORIAL book #9 (Yorktown Class Carriers) claims that Air Group 8 was on board during the raid (18-F4F,32-SBD AND 15-TBN) but there must be a typo because it gives the total as 81 aircraft plus the 16 B-25's. The OSPREY "CAMPAIGN" book #156 claims Air Group 8 had 30-F4F,24-SBD AND 10-TBN plus 5 reserve aircraft plus the 16-B-25's at the time. The question is; Where do we go to get the final answer?

I´m about to sink my teeth into Trumpeters 1/350 kit. What update sets do you think is necessary, and what can I leave out? I´m planning on using the WEM sets, and possible the Nautilus wooden deck, but I´m a bit sceptical to that one. Not wanting to offend anyone, but is it really a big improvment? I´ve been thinking about correcting the hull shape, but have decided against it. Havn´t got the skills to pull it of. Have also been thinking of using the inaccurate Gator-masks, since I think good looking, inaccurate camo looks better than accurate, messy camo....
Replacement guns? More etch? Other parts? Any advice is appreachiated.
