Anyone Know Where I can Buy This Book In The UK

Battleships of World War Two: An International Encyclopedia Author: Whitley, M J

I ordered a copy of this book from zavvi.co.uk two weeks ago but today received an email saying that my order was cancelled :( The price was 25 and all seemed good. The only other copies of this book i can find are on Amazon and they are all second hand, seems very difficult to buy. If anyone can suggest an alternative book please do. Thanks, Steve.

It looks like Whitley's Battleships Of World War Two is now out of print, so the second hand market may be your only option. It might save you money too, for example there is a copy listed on eBay for 18 and another listed on ABE for 20.

Thanks for the reply. I found a copy at ABE, second hand but will have to do. Is this book regarded as the best book about Battleships?

Not that I know of, but I'm sure someone may hold that opinion.

But it is a good book, nonetheless. It is also one of the best "encyclopedic" references, although I seem to recall that it parrots certain errors found in other publications.

The book has to cover too much breadth to be able to compete with the more specialized and in-depth publications such as G&D, Raven/Roberts, Terzbaschitsch (sp?), and many others. But it does this pretty well, IMO.

It's a good overview as are the author's other books and thus is well worth having. If you need something specific you are, however, better for looking for something more in-depth.
