Well, I took some 60 photos. I think I can manage to send a few to the administration of the site so that they can put them online as a Review or something similar to those walkarounds that show up from time to time.
And the teaser follows...I was aboard cruiser Moskva last year as well....quite a few dozens of photos!!!

they are a lot of books in russian on the s class with some very good drawing.
i think the best are one from magazine gangut and one from magazine history of the ships.
i have all and if you want i can send offline the copies. if you are interested send to my pm the e-mail.
some drawing is very big, more than 3 M so notify to me if you have limitation on e-mail.
ciao peppe

Anyone seen the new UdaloyII kit that just came out from trumpetor? Is it a rehash of the original Udaloy? same hull only a few new sprues?

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
I suppose it is the kit #4531 "Russian Udaloy II class destroyer Admiral Chabanenko" you mean?
The Udaloy II is slightly different from the older Udaloy. It has SS-N-22 missiles, and a different gun, among other things. There is only one ship in this class active in the Russian navy today, and that is Admiral Chabanenko.
I haven't seen the kit in real life yet, but I will probably buy it. I'm now actually building the 1/350 Trumpeter kit #4517 Udaloy.
From what I can see from the pictures at Trumpeter, the kit is completely new. It seems to have a full hull only (no waterline option).

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
I'm currently building the Arkmodel 1/100 Udaloy. I'm wondering what is inside the funnel? The parts indicated in the instruction sheet are missing, yet I'm wondering about their reality anyway. I'm more or less thinking the real "roof" of the funnel is more on the upper side of the funnel, but I don't really have any proof or experience with gas turbined ships' funnels. Anybody have an idea what it looks like? At this scale it would be huge gaping holes, so something should be placed inside I suppose.
Furthermore I'm adapting the kit following reference pictures. Lots of work, you can follow it in the Picture Post-Works in progress.

I couldn't help but notice that the people on the flight pad are dressed in the same colours as the deck. Am I seeing it right?

I on the other hand noticed... she's missing her Kinzhal missiles and Cross Swords radars.

Yup. Both weren't ready on time so first three units didn't have them installed when commissioned.Sauragnmon wrote:I on the other hand noticed... she's missing her Kinzhal missiles and Cross Swords radars.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
This is Kulakov, indeed she didn't have the Kinzhal when she was launched. Also note the difference in flight deck dimentions, later units have a broader deck, the entire beam of the ship is covered on later ships.
I also discovered that some units were actually armed with old-fashioned twin machine guns, barrels one on top of the other.
At least one unit was upgraded with a anti-diver grenade launcher system, on both sides of the second 100mm gun. (Vinogradov), a variant of that launcher can also be found on the Yaroslavl Mudry, the second of the Neustrashimiy class which entered service recently.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
How many have tried to build or under construction of a Udaloy class ship bigger than the 1/700 or 1/350? Just looking for people that are into RC for the moment.

I would be interested to know what other issues-problems exist on this kit...carr wrote:There are other problems which I'd be happy to document and discuss if anyone is interested.
Thanks,

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Too bad it's not a Udaloy you're so upset with, Bob - I'd almost be tempted to salvage the main turrets off it either way, and scale-o-rama them - I wonder what they'd look like set up on a Kirov in place of the Shipwreck deck - with the scale shift they're about 16" bore, weighing in at ~455mm in 1/700. I would love to get my hands on a pair of the 1/350 AK-100 turrets to convert into 8" guns on a Kirov.
Yes, I'm a madman. If you haven't figured that out, well, you just heard it.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Many thanks to Bob for his presentation of the 1/200 kit mistakes.
I was able to getmyself both kits at 50 euros (about 25 each). I guess my money were not totally wasted but I presume I just acquired to kits that make out an impressive model of a ship that looks like something real but is not like the real thing...

To Saura:
If I get myself on a couple of those turrets you are the next owner... If you are patient enough perhaps in a couple of weeks I will manage to get my hands on two 1/350 AK-100 turrets for you...

Well, if you can, it would be muchly appreciated, Nikos - I'd love to build my Heavy Kirov with the one that's sitting in my stash.
