I just took a look at your website. WOW! Very awesome model - looks absolutely flawless. Also all the close up pictures of the real ships are great and I will surely be able to use them for reference since my next ship will also be a Sovremenny.
Can I ask what color you used for the lower decks? Is it one specific shade or a mixture? It looks very nice.
Thanks
Mine is a small contribution to all the modellers
I am happy

The odd part of that Sovremmeny modification is that it has no visible fire control radars for the missiles replacing the SA-N-7/11 missiles, I don't know if they're SSM or SAM, I would surmise some form of SAM, but I don't know what they are. Aside from that, it's little more than a 956E or 956EM, because it has the aft turret removed, and the Kashtans on the helipad deck. Well, one might surmise that second dome on the hangar is different, but aside from that the guy who did it isn't completely up to speed - there's still a Bass Tilt radar behind and slightly above the Moskits, there's still the three Front Dome radars for the SA-N-7's as well (Hangar just below the dome, right in front of the boat, just in front of the foremast) So it's not an entirely thought out plan. I know, I know, I'm a picky bastard. Sue me.
That Udaloy III is an interestind design though - you have the SA-N-9's still installed (four launchers right in front of the hangar, four more on the bow, and it still has the Cross Swords radars - top of the hangar, top of the bridge) It also has new VLS mountings behind that new gun turret - interesting, I wonder what it is - Oniks? The new turret is also an interesting design, new sloped design, wonder if it's just a new turret on the 130mm guns? Also interesting is the new bulked out structure, all so enclosed, I wonder what else is in that new bulked up structure, what other interesting things can be hidden there? Very interesting stuff. I like it.

O.K. firstly i m going to my lawyer to sue you as you suggested.
The Sovremenny design is from a what if cold war scenario. I don t know if you are familiar with that one. Its called The Last War. It is very interesting. Here is a link to it:
Hmm, interesting concept - I didn't know it was inspired by a story, who knew. I DO know, however, the artist who did that Weasel Eagle in Chapter 106 - he's one of the big posters on the What If forum for aircraft profiles, and is well known for doing alternate-camo patterns on aircraft, and has done a LOT of them, and I'll confess, I plan on doing a couple of aircraft inspired by his patterns.
Interesting, that Udaloy III is a real-world plan. I'm not surprised though, it makes a lot of sense for how they can bring the Oniks into service with the navy. The Oniks is primarily vertical launch, so the missile tubes being on the forward deck like that works. Looks like it's got a few more missiles on hand as well - looks like a double batch. I still wonder what else is hidden in that superstructure, that's really bulked out, and I find it interesting. Definately a lower RCS on it I am sure.

Simon i like this TLW story because it is very similar to my whif U.S. 600-ship U.S. Navy. Without knowing thisa stories existence i developed my own whif cold war scenario and made my own U.S. Navy compositiopn I accelerated for example the acquisition program for DDG-51s, bought more DD-963s and CG-47s and the SSN-21 program was continued and was a priority to the defence budget. FFG-7s were modernised with VLS and other stuff. These are just some examples.
To my surprise the TLW author had very similar ideas with me. I guess you can t make a whif 90s and beyond U.S. Navy in many ways.

Simon i see that you re not just a whiffer you know lots of things concerning modern navy. I enjoy exchanging ideas with you.

Whif USN - well, one of the simplest methods would be to focus on some of the principles that the USN did not explore in some aspects, Nektarios, or ideas that they dropped, IE - 8" forward mounts on Ticon and Spruance. CSGN development. Polaris Missile positions on Long Beach cruisers. Refitted Iowas. Hybrid New Jersey. Aft block VLS New Jersey. There's just a few basic whifs you could do for giggles and kicks. I have entertained thoughts of getting a JAG Long Beach and whiffing it within an inch of its life into a CSGN - I might still, if I can get the funds together. It's a lot to put out for the basic ship for me, so I'll continue on plastic whif venues for now.
Modern Navy - Well, I'm not THAT knowledgable, there are still holes in what I know, a lot of what I know, I've picked up here, or in just reading up on things. I know the Oniks/Yakhont is scheduled to replace the Moskit in service with the Russians, I've read it might replace the Granit as well, but I think That's a mistake. The Alfa project likely will replace the Granit, as it's a large, ramjet-powered cruise missile. I also have read there are Ramjet concepts involving the Granit. I will in no way ever purport to be the final word in things, I know there are many out there who know more than I, but on the Russian Navy, I owe my knowledge to others here - Kidcurrie and Neptune being foremost in that respect, and they shall remain my respected and esteemed teachers for some time I am sure.

Well my whif is based mostly on what would have happened if some programs went on or were not cancelled. For example In the 1983 5-year shipbuilding schedule It was planned to order 3 more Sprucans. In my navy they are built so that there are 34, two for each of my CVBGs and one for each of my BBSAGs. I m modifying nothing so extensively as you do with your Tirpitzski (at least for the moment).

Karl, looking good with the Kidd - nicely done, for a certainty. Looks very good so far.
Nektarios - I see your "Yet" in there, it's all just a matter of time, come on man, you know you want to. There's certainly something fulfilling in knowing that you've worked out all the kinks on the concept.
As to Tirpitzski, I took a break from work on Tirpitzski today - I'll probably have new pics after I've thrown some more paint on the sections I've added - the stack's fixed in place, there's four of the Front Domes on, there's two Cross Swords radars in place. Tirpitzski featured somewhat in the work today though, as I used the turret rings to serve as shaping aids for my barbettes for the Koya - yes, I'm resurrecting my IJN Panzerschiffe from the shelf. I also redid the colour on it, I threw it into a dark green-grey colour, so my IJN builds stand out from the others on my shelf. The whole design should look nice, but I have the aft barbette in place, the forward barbette's needing some trim and sand before it's ready for the turret mountings. The dark green looks better than the gray it was before, certainly.

Simon the problem is that there is so much to do and so little time to build...

That is my problem too Nektarios. Working hard for ten to twelve hours a day leaves no desire to build. at the end of an exhausting week i say TGIF i will build something during the weekend.

Hi Carl,
looking good as always! I don't know if I asked before... How many ships do you plan on building to complete your 'One of each class' project and how many have you already built?

Thanks, Heiko!
I only have eleven models built. Mostly destroyers and frigates, one cruiser, one battleship. The Scott will be number twelve. I have three in waiting, also destroyers.
The list will be pretty long, evidently. I and others have been discussing the list on another thread that I started about the "One of Each Class".

I think you have already broken the one of each clas rule if there was ever such a rule.
You already have two New Jersey kits completed.

I have been absent for a couple of days due to a computer problem.
I had a computer crash due to a virus. All my links to various sites were lost i m afraid i may never find them again. Thank God i had all my other files e-books and photos on an external hard disk so the damage is minimal compared to what would have happened if they were not saved. I ll be back with you the day after tomorrow.

Ouch, Nektarios - yes, good thing you had all your important reference material on another hard drive - I remember the one time I caught a virus, the damn thing was well coded, I couldn't get anywhere within an inch of an anti-virus before it would automatically close the window on me. It'd kill my virus scanners, it'd kill any window where I mentioned a virus scanner, the thing was persistent as all get out, so after a while I just gave up and formatted the drive it was on. That'll teach it to screw with an armed tech who has his OS disc on hand.
Ever since that incident, my main drive is partitioned in quarters, so I don't lose my important data - I back it up regularly to storage areas in the other quarters so in the event of a format I just kill C, rebuild it, format it, and install again. That and it makes handling a 160GB hard drive a far cry easier.
