Chain and Anhors

I notice some pretty impressive chains and anchors onboard.
What are some of you guys using.? PE in 700 dosen't look real because
its flat. Where do you guys buy 700 chain and anchor.

Try a jewelry store. They have lots of small chains.

If you want gold and can afford it.......... No I mean cheap chains like you would find at large department stores.

i can always use a good beating! always starting trouble. your right of course, there's about a 99% chance she'd walk in while you were painting them!

99%, huh? Then have a bottle of gold paint handy and tell her you primed the "anchor chain" first. Realistically, this will only delay the inevitable outcome as predicted in my previous post.

Most hobby shops or model train stores should have a selection of chain available. A-Line is a brand I've used before, and they have different sizes (links per inch) available.

the links i sanded off my 350th yamato were .036 inches, that stuff would be a little large for an exact replacement.

What luck..
the day after starting this post I dropped by my local hobby shop and as luck would have it
they sold chain I would say about 1/600 scale, price was $ 1.65 a ft. there wasn't much left
so I bought up the remaing stock about 9 ft. Looks real good. Ok what color would look most
realistic I know I have to paint it. I am open to suggestins.

I just recently brought my building to the next level.
I just started adding PE to my ships. It quite a task at first. after about the 3rd ship
it started getting a little easier. ,but that was the easy stuff the railings. I know the
other PE will be harder. ( the super structcher stuff.) I have been pouring through
the gallery trying to find some examples to copy from. I can't seem to pick out
what is PE on these ships. The railing and ladders are obvious. Can someone point me
to a few ships in the gallery where PE is added so I can sorta get the drift about
assembying these parts. The instructions that come with the PE are fine, I can't seem
to make out whats, what.

Just use a base color (often black), and then paint with oils, e.g. umber, or dark sienna. Thin down a bit with turpentine (<>terpentine, but also works). Flattening the links individually with a pair of pliers gives a nice result.

Loren Perry of GMM has an excellent book on working with PE. Also you might pick up Mike Ashley's book on building ship models.

found some. local shop had it sitting on the shelf. four thousandths smaller than the plastic molding but i can live with it. will work very nicely for 1/350th, they also have it in smaller for you 700th guys.

me i'm gonna paint it tamiya gunmetal, mabe a light neutral grey over that so you can still see the "treated" metal underneath. chains getting pulled in and out of winches must get scraped paint.

Model railroad shops usually have chain down to 42 links per inch, but I think Model Expo or Bluejacket may also have it online. Trying jewelry shops was another good suggestion, or go to flea markets and swap meets to look for jewelry. A lot of bracelets (even cheap ones) with clasps and hinges have very small chains to hold them together when they're open.
