Ukranian Slava Class Deck Colour

Post by DAVE V »

Hi Everyone, i have just recieved my Trumpeter 1/700 Scale Ukranian Cruiser, i have had a quick look and would like to know if the colour quoted by Trumpeter is correct, they specify Insignia Red for the deck, from the box art it appears more like Russian deck Red, of which i have White Ensign models colour. I would be grateful for any advice as to what is the correct colour.
Many thanks

Many Thanks Bob, that fits with the colour i already have, only bit that i cant work out is trumpeter have made the deck colour scheme for the Vilna Ukrania, as black and russian red, all of the cruisers and battlecruisers i have seen have just the russian red deck, anyone know if that is correct or should it be just russian red.
Many Thanks

I'm trying to distinguish whether the horizontal portion is a solid platform, mesh screen platform, or empty with just the tubular supports. None of my pictures or references have sufficient resolution to determine for sure.
Are you referring to this structure ?

If so, I think there is a mesh screen platform inside.

Sorry, I do not have any better photos :(
Hope it helps.

There is definitely something there - this picture (bottom left) seems to imply that it was solid (solid shadow):

Yet, I have also seen some photos in which you can see very faintly the white waterline, denoting mesh.

As to its purpose, perhaps this shot of Peter's may provide a bit of insight - safety net/platform for small boats?

However, this shot of Peter's show that there was no mesh/solid platform (you can clearly see the shadows of the framework on the hull, with no sign of darkness between them), and is taken at around the same time as the one above, so probably whatever was there in the older ships had nothing or not on purpose to do with safety:

This is the kind of info I like to see posted here. Informative info on making the most accurate kits possible. Good work Bob.

Well Bob keep the info coming. Will help me later if I decide to build it in 1/72. One question is this the same on all the ships or different to each? I plan on the Frunz / Admiral Lazarev or Pyotr Velikiy.

Very good job Bob. :thumbs_up_1: Your drawings are terrific great help for all Kirov builders (I also have Trumpeter 1/350 Kirov  ).
carr wrote:Also, does anyone have any photos of the Kirov's hull below the waterline to confirm what Trumpeter has presented on their 1/350 kit? Not to doubt Trumpeter's research but they've produced some pretty impressive goofs from time to time, so I'd like to verify the hull.
This photo (probably Pyotr Velikiy) is showing some details of hull below the waterline:

It is quite possible that Kirov had got identical hull with the same features.
