John, thanks for the kind words, I just received the missing part for the bridge of my CVN 71 from HLJ. So I will hopefully be finishing it shortly. I might have to get a regular surface ship to do next. After working on all the aircraft, I do not know if I have it in me to do the LHD right away. I am still considering how to fill the flight deck. I know I want to use the AV-8 from WEM that I have on hand.

That made my day, thanks. I will try to post some updated pics of how the fight deck is coming along. Currently it has the the E-2c (1), F/A-18c (3 - VFA-15, 4 - VFA-87), S-3b (4), and EA-6b (4). Next will be the SH-60 (think 2 folded, 2 ready to go) and the F-14D (Thinking, 3 from the VF-213, 4 from VF-31) Think I messed one of them up earlier in the build.

I think I will be, working on the island for now.I need a rest from aircraft and all those decals. Then the deck vehicles.

There are two "enhanced" Atago kits one with a posibility to show the interior of the helicopter hangar and a second one with some VLS tubes opened and SM-2 missiles. I don t know if they have more "enhanced" kits as future releases. Where have you seen the "enhanced" kits you mention???

I was trying to find the link again but I didn't bookmark the page. I think it might even have been the Pitroad website, but I think we might be talking about the same kits here... I'll try to find the links again.

Uh.... the Eventually Pile's size is... Classified. yeah, that's it. Classified.

In reality, it's almost always expanding, it goes on to a list of just about anything I can commit heresy with, or modify the everloving hell out of. I can think of a few fun things I could do to a Haruna or a Shirane. VLS on the ASROC position, upgrade the guns, the directors, fiddle around with a few things, it's all gravy.

Here are some DDH-143 Shirane and DDH-144 Kurama photos. These ships are an improved Haruna class carrying the same weapons and numbers of helicopters on a larger hull.
DDHs were designed as flagships for each of the four Escort flotillas which would also include two DDGs for AAW and five DDs ASW protection. Very recently the JMSDF has changed the composition of its four 8-ship escort flotillas and divided them into eight 4-ship groups.
Each 8-ship escort flotilla was divided into two groups. One of them has a DDH, a DDG and two DDs having the same role as the previous 8-ship escort flotilla. The other one has one DDG and three DDs having as its mission ABM defence.

DDH-143 is homeported at Yokosuka and DDH-144 at Sasebo.

I take it that the older Haruna class ships will be replaced by the incoming Hyugas? Which means the Shirane class should be in service for quite a bit more since only two Hyugas are planned?

The kits are from Pitroad.
Yes the Hyugas will replace the Haruna class. I believe that until 2015-2017 the Shirane class will have to be replaced too since they approach 30 years of service (commissioned in 1980 and 1981) If the replacement will be two more Hyugas or improved versions i don t know. I do not think that there is time to develop a new design.

What you said of course makes sense, afterall the Hyugas are already quite an upgrade from their current DDHs.

Thanks! Yes, those seem to be the same ships that I saw, but they don't seem to be available in Europe yet. Same goes for the Abukuma ships. If I do decide to get them at some point, I might have to order directly from HLJ then.
