Gonna do a little more paintwork today on the Tirpitzski and file the update. There's been a lot of progress from the last shots I took, so it'll be significant. I hope to get some major work done this weekend, as I have got a day off on either side. I'm not getting paid for them though, I might as well get Something done.

DE-226 Ishikari was built in the late 1970s. It was the first JMSDF destroyer escort which was ASuW oriented. It was found to be very small and was followed by the two similar Yubari class.
Ishikari wasdecommisioned in late 2008.

I had another thought to help keep some uniquity with my builds for the Japanese Marine Not-so Self Defense Force - Imagine if you will, modern technology plus the infamous 61cm bore torpedoes used exclusively by Japan. The use of the 61cm torpedo would still render Japanese Torpedo carriers as the most powerful torpedo-carrying warships out there - the Russian 650mm torpedoes are used only on submarines, and most if not all other navies standardized 533mm torpedoes. Modernized Long Lances would give them something quite interesting. I might have to put a rack of them on my... er... Upgraded Abukumas, in place of the ASROC launchers. It begs some interesting concepts certainly.

DE-227 Yubari was built in the late 1970s. It is a lengthened version of Ishikari. Both classes were considered unsuccesful designs and although initially more were planned only three were built
Yubari is still serving as part of the Oominato regional district.

Good idea there Simon.
I have also had thoughts of JMSDF whifs. One i ll definitely do is a modernised version of the what if version of Yamato with the larger calibre guns. Armed with Harpoon, Phallanx RAM and Tomahawk. It would be something similar to the modernised Iowas.

Those ships look great Nektarios! I'd really like to get my hands on some of those smaller JMSDF vessels someday.

Yep, I already started glueing the hull together of what is going to be LHD 5. I'm pretty excited because it is a change from all the 'smaller' boats that I've built so far...ok, except for the Kirov, those are monsters

I was thinking about using V-22s and I probably will when I build an LHA, but for now I've decided to go with the CH-46s. The helicopters that come with the kit aren't too pretty so I ended up shopping at WEM and spent way more money than intended, but they just looked too good. So the air wing of LHD-5 so far consists of 3 CH-53s, 6 CH-46s, 5 AH-1s and 5 Harriers. I know it's not a complete complement, but one ship is only worth so much of an investment

Take my pick as to which class I prefer... hmm... I'm kinda torn between the '42 and the Sovremenny. Depends on the role I guess, but I just like the whole look of both. Burkes? no thanks, just not my style.

I have around 40-50 LCACs for my fleet. so giving one is not a big problem. I just thought that the LHD kit doesn t give you any LCAC so...

Just finished them. The four Abukumas belong to the last class (six ships were built) of JMSDF Destroyer Escorts. It was decided that i was not cost effective to build low end ships anymore. Only high end ships are nowdays built. High end ships become low end ships at midlife so JMSDF saves significant amounts of money by focusing in a smaller number of designs.

DE-229 is the nameship of the class it is homeported at Maizuru being part ot its regional district. Enjoy:

DE-230 is homeported at Oominato being part ot its regional district. In wartime ships allocated to regional districts are tasked with the protection of convoys and coastal defence.
