They look good, Nektarios - nicely turned out, rather simple, but sometimes, simple works. I would hate to do a complex dio with a Sub, they're so very austere, it might detract from the whole image. The only potential difference would be, say, doing an Oscar or other SSGN/SSBN in the midst of a launch. I might do that with the Echo III whenever I get to the idea.

Another very cool layout for a dio would be displaying a sub doing an emergency surface, a full-out blow the tanks nose going up 30 degrees erupting out of the water emergency surface. Wouldn't be a bad way to do a cool dio with an SSK/SSKN model.

That s a great idea but for now i m doing simpler things i ll build more complex dioramas as my skills improve ( i hope they will ).

I had thought about that idea too but I just can't decide which sub I want to 'sacrifice' since I only have one of each kind. Another Akula perhaps...

I have worked on my 1:545 scale uss missouri 1944 to uss new jersey 1991
Hard work.
But now i got a helideck and some other modern stuff.
Currently building the radar tower.
BUT NO RADAR
Anybody knows where i can find an 1:545 scale radar that the uss iowa class had at their last years?

Nektarios, the dio looks good, a very nice pair. If there's anything I would love to do, it would be to use the submarines that have Phoenetic names, in a Dio that spells something... like Whiskey - Tango - Foxtrot. It'd be way too tempting once I got into it to do it that way.

Heiko - an Akula's nice streamlined bridge and hull would look good in the crash-surface dio, so long as you managed to measure the angle perfectly so she pulls off the look just right as she tears free of the water at top speed.

Since DML's Kirovs include a couple of SS-N-12's in semi-scale, you could effectively pull off an Echo II launch dio with little effort in that respect. You'd just have to display her with the dish out as well as having one of the tube pairs lifted. I'd consider the aftmost pair lifted for launch.

Flourescent tinted translucent acrylic rod, includes flexible design, could have some interesting uses.

Alright, I told you boys I was working on a Kongo, here's a few preliminary pics - I've left some of the deck stuff intact for various reasons like detail, but I wanted to show some of the extensive nature of my refits so far. I just slapped on the coat, and I'm not sure if I want the deck colour this dark. I might go for my Neutral gray, as seen on my USN warships. The flight deck is going to be turned into a missile battery with a handful of VLS cells, the shielded 25mm mounts are going to be adapted into a CIWS platform with new guns and some sensors on them. The main guns are going to stay put. Aft structure will likely be replaced, rebuilt, along with the stacks, into a new low-RCS stack behind the bridge, a hangar and helipad. The old 5" positions will be converted to the new 155mm 55cal artillery system. There's going to be ostensibly Mk13 GMLS positions fore of the aft CIWS on deck mounts, using some of the 14cm magazine space for the missile storage. I might, if the hangar is big enough, put in a SAM system on a pedestal mount like the Sea Sparrow. Anyways, so far, the Pictures!

USS Iowa class battleships from the 80's onwards used the SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, but I do not know what variant the Iowa's used, and I'm not so sure if any manufacturer makes seahawks in 1/540.
