Mitch, if you're looking to build the Gorshkov/Baku in her refitted form, you'll need, most obviously, the skijump. But additionally, you'll need to trust your hand with a saw and remove the missile position from the deck - that's a raised section, and I don't know if Trumpy molded that on the deck or not.

Cheap way to get the ramp, and some of the other systems you'll need? go buy a Testors/Italeri Kuznetsov - it's low scale, sure, but you get the ramp section, you get the Skywatch radars, and you can slice it up without worrying, because you bought it on the cheap.

Nektarios - she's looking good, though I'm left to wonder - why are you doing Indian MiG-29K's with a Minsk? You'd have to do a lot to her in order to get a flight deck that can service them, as the ramp's a necessity for the 29K.

Yay found an kuznetsov.
19 euro's, including send costs.
Now i needa find an kiev class.
Ore i only build the kuznetsov.
I like the kuznetsov more actually...
(nvm on the idea about ebay, 10 times the price from the model is the shipping costs, and marktplaats doesnt have the kiev class :S)
( hmm ill go ask some dutch friend's if they know where to get the kiev class in holland.)

If you're going to buy a Kiev or Minsk, trust me, save yourself thousands of hours of smashing your head on the desk, BUY THE TRUMPETER VERSION. I thought I'd save a couple of bucks and bought the aoshima one, I have replaced essentially EVERYTHING on it because the detail was that bad. I have seen better bricks for detailing level. The Italeri Kuznetsov lacks overall in detail, due to its age, but they might have repopped over the Testors version that I have so it might have a little more detail. Another thing to note - the Baku/Gorshkov also had her flight deck extended on the side, covering over the portside forward AK-630 positions. Ebay pricing is hit and miss, so don't worry too much about it, Mitch.

I know ebay=cheap.
But from the usa to holland.
40$ of shipping costs, and the model is 10$.
Thats just to much.
50$ = like 25 euro.
And the model itself is 15 euro in holland, and transfer costs in 3 euro.
So ill go find an shop that sells it
And i know about the extension for the indian navy.
I think now, the conning tower is placed in the middle of the deck.
Not a good position
Why dont they lift it up? and place it more to the left.(seen from forward)
Then they got more deckspace...

I didn t build it i just did some work on it. I do this occasionally.

I start building a kit assemble some parts and then put it back in its box.

This week i have also started:

Essex class SCB-125 kit by Ships & Co. (not decided yet which of the three carriers i will represent)
DML CV-31 Korean war
DML CV-36 first Angled Deck Essex.
DML CV-37 as ASW carrier.
DML LPH-5 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

I haven t done too much work on them. but its a start.
I 'm thinking to add lights inside the hangar bay of all Essex class carriers. They have so many hangar openings that lots of detail can be added and it will be visible once the hangar is closed. Of course all will be in dioramas either in port or underway.

The trumpy decals were not very good. If i knew i would have handled them in a different way. I had to weather Minsk's flightdeck to make it look better.

Looks great Nektarios! Since I have close to no experience when it comes to weathering ships, could you perhaps explain in a few words how you did it on this ship? It looks rather nice/realistic

Simon the MiG-29s are not related to the Minsk project.

They are for a friend. Right now i m unemployed that s for a couple of months so i will work on some builds for friends on commission to make some money.

What i do is very simple. I use the same colour with the flight deck i want to weather (in this case the russian green and orange) and apply a tiny amount of paint with a brush over the decals.

When it comes to CTOL aircraft carriers you should be careful because not all areas are weathered in an even way.


Arnaud, now that i m not working for a couple of months i may be able to finish a carrier or two or ten.

This is STILL highly hypothetical!

What particular ship are you describing? If it's for the Gorshkov, Their conning tower or "island" is actually placed more to the starboard and not on the middle. Almost NO aircraft carrier has an island placed on the middle, as what was a lesson learned from a WW1 British carrier launching and landing faulty biplanes with a huge island on the middle!. It's clearly evident on this photo of Gorshkov:

And besides, the Kiev class are actually designed to accomodate helicopters and specifically not for jet aircraft although they also launch jets, hence the small area for deck space.

If it's in the case for Vikramaditya, The position of the island is practically unchanged, only some slight modifications, as what is seen in your photo of the the two ship's comparison. only the deck edges were extended for deck space and for launching aircraft. (I think),....

I've been quite busy lately with my studies and haven't gotten around to working on my LHD at all but luckily something else with a lot of less workload came along. Thanks to Nektarios, who was kind enough to send me this little gem, here's a little dio that didn't take very long to make.

This is one of the first boats of the new Chinese Houbei Class 220 tonnes-36kts fast-Missile boats that have been produced in quite a few numbers in the past few years. Depicted here on patrol in the dirty blue-green-greyish waters of the Chang Jiang estuary.







The kit itself is basically no kit. The hull comes in one piece, only the AK-630 and the mast needed to be attached and voil�. The only thing I did was add a few details such as the antennas, railings and chaff launchers.

Once again, thanks very much Nektarios, being a fan of the stealthy-things, this is a nice addition to my display!

21 MiG-29Ks and 6 SU-25s are 99% ready. They will be ready to deploy in a couple of days.

Its my first build on commission. I hope to get more orders to build 1/700 aircraft in the future.

30 euro's + 15 euro's.
I can buy an 1/350 scale aircraft carrier for that at the local modelshop.
Bad, that they only have every time the same ships.
always 1/720 ronald reagan, 1/350 enterprise,1/545 saratoga, and tirpitz 1/545.
And an 1/120 scale submarine from 400 euro's O.o

Mitch - try asking the owner, see if you can ask him to stock or order in some new stuff - he might be able to order through his distributors or what have you to see if he can get the stuff in. The problem with ordering through the shop is that it can take who knows how long, if his distributors like to, as we say in Canada, Duck The Fog. It's a little saying, shuffle the letters, it makes more sense.

Nektar - beautiful looking MiGs, as usual for you a spectacular job, I only mourn the somewhat sober schemes they use in the Indian Navy. I hope to do a few interesting schemes in some upcoming builds, who knows what I'll pull out of my hat - I am crazy, and no, I'm not changing my dosage. Ever.
