I'm still thinking if it should be a battlegroup or a harbour dio. But for now, I'm opting for a battlegroup. A harbor dio would be off the list for now. But a ship heading for the harbor would be nice!

A 1980s or early 1990s with a variety of battlegroup escorts like CFA, Knox, OHP, Kidd, Garcia, Coontz, Spruance and Ticonderoga class would be interesting.

I'm still planning this. Since there are more 1/700 models here in our LHS, I'll give it a shot. The size is too big, not too small, unlike those MASSIVE 1/350 scale dioramas! And the best part, they're all modern US Navy ones!

Nick, both dio ideas are good. You'll have to tell me where your LHS is though. I'm going to be in Cebu (visiting my parents) in September

If your battlegroup will consist of only 4 ships then you may consider building an UNREP dio of a carrier with an AOE and a cruiser plus a destroyer. That makes four ships and i bet it will look impressive.

Well, she's been built under wraps, since Wednesday, but here she is now - my modified take on a Shirane DDH of the now Republic of Japan Navy. As you can see, modifications include VLS cells - 90 of them - forward of the bridge. The Main turrets have been replaced with modified 2x5/50 turrets with longer barrels in them. The CIWS is changed, the same new stuff. Her Sea Sparrow rack is replaced with ESSM launcher. Main director radars are likely to be changed from the original ASROC radars, to accomodate her multirole layout now. All in all, I think she looks quite different and quite interesting. Thanks, guys - overall, Shirane doesn't look so different - I haven't installed the aft extension of the helicopter deck just yet, but the new turrets and the CIWS do change her up, as with the VLS. Her torpedoes are being replaced as well, with twin close-in defense guns. She'll have more differences too, when I come towards finished.

Your parents are in Cebu? So you are of Filipino origin?!

There's a small LHS found in Ayala Center Cebu, on the third floor, near the main entrance.. I hope you will enjoy your stay here in Cebu, It's a nice place (though not so nice)

That's what I've been planning! I already have an Eisenhower by Academy. I should start maybe sooner or later.

(off-topic on) yep, my mother is Filipino and my father German. I lived in Laguna for 6 years and then came back to Germany. My parents now live in Cebu and it's been a few years since I've been there, so I'm really excited. I will definitely be at Ayala Center at some point. (off-topic off)
I'm thinking that it's going to be a good opportunity to look for those kind of ships that are difficult to get here. Some older Pitroad kits perhaps? Depending on what I might find, I might have to send myself a package back home Would definitely be cool to perhaps meet up

Heiko - she IS Japanese, both in origin and in concept - she's a JMSDF Shirane Class DDH, modified for the concept of the Republic of Japan Navy - domestic turret designs, alternate equipment in places, still sails under the rising sun.

Yesterday i received two kits of the newest JMSDF submarine SS-501 Soryu. They are the first AIP submarines constructed for Japanese Navy.

It's good to have members here who are filipino! Makes me feel more at home! There are 1/350 models in Ayala center by Tamiya, almost all. and some modern dragon ones. There are also 1/700 models but mostly from Academy and Dragon too. I don't recall seeing Pitroad models there? I'll try to check again!

Thank you John and gtb. Before i make more progress on these Essex class carriers i need to build at least a part of the airwing to place them inside each hangar before i close it.
