I'd suggest you flip the angles on your Harpoons, so they fire over opposite corners - you'd get better exhaust dispersion that way. If you're going to use 3" Oto guns, might as well go for broke and put in mk45's instead of the 5" guns. Don't forget you'll want a SPQ-9 for the surface search radar to direct your 3" guns. You'll also want a place for two additional phalanx mounts - straddling the stack is one idea, it would give aft coverage. That said, she looks pretty good - borrows a lot of Iowa to achieve the effect, but she's well executed. I have my own thoughts for a modernized SoDak concept.

very interesting concept with the modernized south dakota......sort of like imagining what it would look like if the massachucetts & alabama had to be recalled from museum duty and placed back on active duty :thumbs_up_1:

Wonderful concept and execution... I guess 1/700 scale??? :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Never thought of a modernised south dakota... I guess I have underestimated the power of the So'Das...

That got me thinking... Now where I 've put my 1/700 So'Das... :heh: :heh:

I have to admit... just looking at the stern view of the SoDak screams to have a burke-style aft structure built in over the aft 16" and towards the helipad - the walls there seem to show a perfect division for the hangar areas. You could host easily four or six helos in a full length structure like that, plus have a rather heavy presence of VLS. Upgrade the secondaries, fit in CIWS etc, she'd be a right out monster.

I have a pic of my 700scale Alabama with MK41 in place of the aft 16". Replaced the 2 lower MK38s on each side with MK42s (rof 80rpm!). The others & some of the 40mm quads I replaced with 4-MK15s, 7-GAU-8s & 7-40mm twin Berettas in layered defense. no getting missiles anywhere near me!
