The separated edging is fitted to the edging around the bridge.

The Roof of the bridge is offered back into place .

Thankfully it fits!

A look at the types of acetate sheet that will eventually glaze the windows.

The idea behind having a removable roof so as to make it easier to glaze .after painting.

how come your railings are so straight mine usualy end up with a scew up somewhere that gets left like it is.i now know what the little tabs are for on the railings,i have been cuting them off and drilling holes to mount them,i thought they where stops to give the rails the correct height,but they must be mounting brackets .one learns something new every day on this forum.kiev is going to be one smart looking boat,exellent work.

Hi Russ good to hear from you . The rails are nickel silver and perhaps a little better at resisting twisting than brass. On Kiev the foot of the stanchion post is welded to a vertical kicking plate . About 30% of the rails are mounted this way, mostly around the superstructure .

Hi Bill thanks for your kind comments. I think superstructures on carriers can be a sort of focal point . But so much depends on the type of carrier. For Kiev the "island" has become a cross between a jigsaw and crossword. Trying to dovetail each element into the structure so it becomes less of a nightmare to paint and less of a problem to put together. I think the hull on Kiev does not have the openings in the side and as the Soviet definition would imply it is more cruiser than carrier . Where as the other extreme , building a Nimitz class { a friend of mine is undertaking at this moment} is all carrier . Given all the facts and practical considerations I'm glad that I'm working to 1:144 scale any larger and it would be outside of my work shop as well as in.

Along the line of separation a strip of styrene box section is measured and set
into place as per these two photos.


When fitted the roof is offered back into place atop of the bridge.
A clean no gap fit

Now to fit the Owl Screech director

Reasonably good fit . As mentioned before the underside supports are fitted
when the bridge is �set� into place

So that one month u see kiev, and one month u put up the part's and then u see vikramenditya, and then off/on/off

Hi Mitch As you made mention of Vikramidtya I'd like to digress very briefly from the
build thread to show a glimpse of the changes that have been made to the former Gorshkov.

The old modified Kiev class carrier Gorshkov ready to undergo a some what protracted
and very expensive make over .

All the forward sandbox launches along with all the other traces of the Gorshkov
forward are removed and the slow job of rebuilding begins.


The change of shape for the bow at least is a long way from that of the old Gorshkov.

In retrospect the modified Kiev , Gorshkov was perhaps more pleasing to the eye
than the Vikramidtya but as a �aircraft carrier� the Mig 29 K equipped Vikamidtya
should be a far superior ship. As for a model I do like the Gorshkov and would have
considered building the ship if drawings were available at the time I started Kiev.
Here�s two Russian examples for modifying the Kiev�s This one looks very much
like the Gorshkov /Vikamidtya rebuild.

The arrangement for the ski jump on this one is reminiiscent of the Hermes

I have to say... looking at the second one, I would say it looks more like a Kuznetsov - look at the size of the Bazalt battery on the bow. She's also got to be bigger, as she appears to support the Yak-144 and the bridge is very different, a double tier to the main section.

I really want to make the vikramidtya.
Since i reinstalled my computer my webpages are ghone, also the only webshop in the netherland's that sell kiev and kuznetsov (that i know off)
Would be an hard scratchbuild to do it.
But also a hell of fun, but what i ment on my earlier reply.
That u just make the modernised peaces, and fit it on the kiev sometimes, and sometimes not.
Then u have two models
