I'd be given a life sentence in the doghouse for building in this scale... she's just too damn beautiful! Seriously awesome work, man.

Re: 1/72 Yamato - or a steep learning curve!
I first saw your build a few years ago -it was principle motivation/inspiration.
I must say how impressive yours looks -I am really struggling along - but its still worth it.
Once sanded, Im thinking a bit of paint will improve the look of the superstructure on mine immensly.
Please keep posting updates on your build -I am watching carefully and with envy!

Re: 1/72 Yamato - or a steep learning curve!
Been guilty of not updating for a while.
But - work is continuing every day nearly, this is a delightful hobby this building stuff.
Had one of my class of students over for a BBQ -model got thumbs up from a totally non model mob -so thats encouraging.
Having trouble taking the photos -the flash keeps reflecting on my crap camera -hope to have photos soon from wifes really good one.
I am currently trying to figure out if i should put "plating" on the hull -ie, really thin styrene with the rivits -but not sure how I will stick that to the glass -or if its worth the effort.
Did buy my first spray gun!
Not sure about the little modelling guns - never bought one -any one with a recommendation.

Re: 1/72 Yamato - or a steep learning curve!
If I may mention something - Yamato72's guns, especially the 46cm, are not a good example. Especially in 1/72 there would be very noticable features to an IJN artillery gun in that size - the muzzle has a flared taper to it, for example, and towards the breech, there's ring patterns just before the bags on them. You might try asking one of the barrel machinists for the measurements, or perhaps if they can produce them. If you get the measurements, rescale them to your size if you're going to try them yourself, or find a buddy who can machine them for you - the details will be glaringly obvious in your scale, even in 1/700 they're noticable.

Re: 1/72 Yamato - or a steep learning curve!
The ring patterns aren't as obvious or prominent as most depictions would have you believe:

As you can see, they are almost flush with the surface of the barrel, and would probably be most accurately portrayed as painted bands rather than a lathed pattern.
And in this shot, they are not even visible on the forward turret: http://webspace.webring.com/people/kb/b ... 000945.JPG
