plans for Bismarck - help please

The AJ Press drawings are very good, buy them. I have a planset of Shambrook Marine (not B.), and I doubt the Bismarck set is better than the AJ press version..

Look on Amazon.com and search for 'The Anatomy of the Battleship Bismark' These anatomy series are brilliant, they show every detail of the ship in question and the history of the ship and a good selection of photographs.
The books mainly concentrate on plans and drawings of every piece of superstructure, arnament and even down to the machinery. No modeller should be without these books, if there is one for the ship you are building. If you type in Anatomy of the Ship on the search, it will list all the books printed in this series. Quite a few are of Period Ships, but there are a good few Twentieth Century warships too.

As far as I know, the best set of Bismarck plans can be obtained from Christian Schmidt in Munich, http://www.christian-schmidt.com, email info@christian-schmidt.com.

They comprise 6 large sheets in 1:100 scale, mailed in a tube, for around 150 Euros. Expensive, but supposedly worth it...

This book isn't due for release in the US until November of this year. Is it available elsewhere right now?

Hi Tom,
Same here on Amazon.co.uk Not available until November 2005. It has not been released yet.
This series started off with period ships and is gradually build up to adding more WW1 & WW2 warships to the list.
But even if you do manage to find a good set of plans for the Bismark, I would certainly buy this book when it becomes available, as they do help the modeler, quite considerably.

Let's hope the AotS book covers Bismarck's rigging in some detail. There's already plenty to be had regarding his hull, superstructure, guns, etc. - rigging would complete my reference materials.

75% of the content of these books, contain plans & drawings, which are all to scale. I have open in front of me, 'The Anatomy of the Destroyer Campbeltown' showing the antena arrangement which reads from the descriptions:-

1 - Forestay - 1/2in galvanised steel wire rope
2 - Dressing line - 2in tarred hemp
3 - Lower forestay - 1/2in galvanised steel wire rope
4 - Wireless antena - No7 silicon bronze
5 - Manila guy line
6 - Antena lead in
7 - Forward auxilliary antena
8 - Stay - 5/8in galvanized steel wire rope
9 - Whistle rope
10 - Auxiliary antena lead in
11 - Aft auxiliary antena
12 - Guy line
13 - Stay - 5/8in galvanised steel rope
14 - Stay - 1/2in galvanised steel wire rope
15 - Dressing line - 2in tarred hemp
16 - Stay - 7/16in galvanised steel wire rope
17 - Stay - 5/8in galvanised steel wire rope

The drawing that this list refers to is a full view of the ship and each part of the rigging shows the number relating to the key and where each stay etc, is attached to the supertructure.
It is drawn to the scale of 1/256

They are truly remarkable books for detail, even down to the finest details, such as machinery, armaments, ships fittings. Every compartment from the Engine and Boiler rooms including all the machinery, to the smallest watertight compartment is shown. There are four pages, just detailing the ships boats alone, with the last drawing in the book showing the camouflage scheme carried in 1941.
These books are a must for detail. Hope this helps you Tom

Yes, I'm familiar with the AotS series - there are over 12 in my collection. Wonderful books, each one of them. Especially, the Yamato, Fuso andTakao books, authored by Skulski - these are gems, in my opinion.
