I thought that I had better post some pictures of my build so far.

First bits of resin fitted

Both the quarterdeck and cable deck? (I think that's the term, I've been building too many AFVs in recent years) will have some scratch built details added. The cable deck will only get some rudimentary bits and pieces but it's all good practise for the scratch building business.

The bow also required some alteration from the original Heller version

More soon.

I’ll be following your build with a lot of interest as I’ve had the kit in my stash for almost 9 years; I received it from a friend and a fellow countryman of yours but due to a lack of decent detail drawings or reference photographs, I’ve not been willing to build it. I can see where that may very well change now. Are you going to be using any of the L’Arsenal 1/400 aircraft that are available?

Thanks John and Roger, much appreciated.
Regarding reference for the ship, these sites are pretty useful Roger
http://www.vlaggeschipsmaldeel5.nl/
http://www.hmskareldoorman.hyves.nl/
http://members.chello.nl/~m.nuijten1/
The first is probably the best, there's even some plans if you dig deep enough

Not sure about the L'Arsenal aircraft yet, the kit's seem pretty good.

How did you manage to get one of these? I've been looking rather hard for quite some time now....

Great build so far, will definitely follow it! :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Luciano
It's true that this kit will require much work. I am currently working on scratch-built gallery decks, thank you for the vote of confidence :thumbs_up_1:

Dave,

thanks for the answer - apparently the kit itself is out, but they have a conversion on offer that looks tempting!

Karel Doorman?

I have never heard about it and I'm surprised, that Holland has also aircraft carrier!

Its so interesting to me and the model sounds so good, when in bow and in stern can see something...

I'm interesting to see more about your work, Dave!

I will to investigate about Karel Doorman, I have now a bit of information, when she was Brit's HMS Venerable and then Dutch sold she to Argentine 1969 and renamed ARA Veinticinco de Mayo and she serviced for Argentine over 30 years!

Joe

In matter of fact the netherlands (my country) had 4 of them.
Two where merchant carriers in ww2.
After ww2 one a escort carrier, Ex nairnia from the uk (karel doorman 1)
Then after the cve we had hr ms karel doorman 2, the pride of the fleet and the largest ship to be in service from the netherlands.
Soon it will be the 2nd biggest when the JLOS/JSS is in active service.
The karel doorman is an ex colusus class aircraft carrier.
Bought from the uk 1948 in active service in may 1948.
Angled deck refit in 1955 to 1958.
Sold after an engine fire (1968)(my grandpa whas engineer at that moment) to argentine.
She entered service as ARA de mayo (v2) (i quess) there, and whas decomissioned in 1997, scrapped at india in 1999 until 2000/1

I just said this out of my head :heh:
My grandpa whas a veteran wich served on her and the legendary zeven provincien class cruisers.
The zeven provincien is currently in Peru navy and the last full gunned cruiser left.
Oh i miss my grandpa :S

DAVE ROWE, you can better make a hell of a ship out of this :P
And when your planning to sell it, knock on my door plz.
Because i cant find any karel doorman kits on the world thats left unbuild/build.
And im desperite to have one :S
To bad i s**k at scratchbuilding.

Just a weird question here.
Is it maby possible to make a mall from your kit?
So that you can make more out of one.
You used the hull already , thats ok.
but from the rest its stil possible, and maby the outer sides of the hull.
This kit is SUPER rare, and i cant find any.
And i want to make one for my grandma (or myself, depends if she wants it)

Mitch ;)

Mitch I've just checked the site where I bought the kit and they're still showing two in stock
http://www.aviationmegastore.com/?shopi ... &art=51613
Drop them a line mate, they're from your neck of the woods.

Dave

There's also this (I think this is what Jorit referred to)
http://www.aviationmegastore.com/hrms-k ... &art=51615
I believe this is the resin parts only, no Heller donor kit (not sure about the p.e. or decals)

Im stil a beginner and soon i dont got the time.
But now i got a question.
How much do you think there's stil left in the world?
Because i found one 2 years ago in the loca shop here, and after one day it whas ghone.
On ebay i had two, and both where ghone in like a week for 300+ dollar.
They are hotcake's and rare.
I think im going to duplicate this kit :)(for myself)
Edit:
http://www.navalmodels.com/Schepen%20Ko ... Marine.htm
Mw models, is that the rare kit that you have?
Or is that a fake resin kit?

Mitch ;)

No problems Mitch, glad to help. Keep it in the stash until you're ready for it, there's no rush to build it after all.
I would say that the MW Models kit is the same kit, their name is mentioned on the box lid and also in the instructions. I must admit that I was very surprised to find it on the Aviation Megastore site, so I couldn't begin to guess how many are still knocking about.

Cheers
Dave.

Any progress on your model?
Im saving every picture you will show us, just to learn from it and to see how i have to do mine.
Thanks again :P
Greetingz
Mitch ;)

*edit*
OOOh, the man that sells the kit says its the heller arromanches whit resin parts to convert.
Now im feeling bad.

Or not?
