Here's a 8" railgun CG (X) design study I kitbashed together from DDG Pinckney.

I felt that the Ticos were too slim-hipped to carry the extra generators and machinery such a ship would need to carry, so I opted to start from a Burke hull. Inserted two 30' sections, one amidships, one just forward of the bridge. Overall that puts length just at the Tico L.O.A. Modified the Burke bow to look like a Tico, which I think is more elegant and purposeful.

Put a proposed 8" railgun into a scratchbuilt stealth turret up front. A Otobreda 76mm gun is in superfiring position, replacing the Phalanx on the Flt. I Burke. Moving aft, scratchbuilt firing positions port and starboard for RAM. Placed a Phalanx aft over the relocated generator box, and then finally the 5"/62 gun. Midships is a VLS cell.

A modern gunship for littoral work.

Very interesting - nice build. That is one big assed turret - the size reminds me of the German WW2 DDs with the twin turret on the front.

I assumed you'd need a big turret for an 8" railgun packed with cooling and electric gizmos ( you can tell I didn't get an E.E. degree, eh?). Not to mention armor.

Won't the location of the 5"/62 mean its magazine will protrude through the ceiling of the hangar?

The VLS cells there now fit neatly between the hangars. I don't imagine the machinery/magazine for the 5"/62 needs more space than the missiles right?
