I thought the goal was to finish a build before the end of January, not see who gets done the fastest. :eyes_spinning: :dead:
The thing is guys, I've done all the easy stuff, now I'm at all the finishing detail stuff and that will take the most time.

I spent all day on the aircraft and torpedo handling section. The whole ship now has its clear gloss coat ready for weathering.

FINISHED - although I have had little or no response to my build, perhaps this is due to two things, 1 -its crap or 2 - no one likes it.

Above, 3 different colours were used on the search light.

I've set before 1927 hense the solid walk-over bridge that was later replaced.
While still waiting for my 2nd ship IJN Yahagi also in 1-700 I guess there still would be time to start and finish that by Jan 31st.

I've never done one of these group builds before, originally I thought everyone would build the same model but in their chosen scale, I can't say this has a group feel to anything, all I've done is build (took my time although this is Yubari No2) and like I say, I don't know what to expect.
Oh almost forgot, just for a change, I've used very light weathering, I'd made an escape from my usual heavy wear and tear, rust and oil stain, maybe when and if Yahagi arrives, I'll go mad on that, then post side by side sort of thing.

I think that when I am quoting everybody is doing great is some kind of response... You can check the response I had over this thread and to a couple of completed models over at picture post to see....
There are some parts I really like in your build, like the canves covers and the rigging, which is far better than my rigging so far... I do not like the way the main turrets look... They are too crude in my opinion...

This is not a contest... Let us say that it is some kind of motivation in order to build and finish something... Hence the various subjects and scales... There is no point in making the same ship in different scale... Everybody would look at others' work and simply wonder how did he do it and how will I do something similar...

Well Alec, in my opinion, this would have to be your best build so-far. Cleanly done, paint looks nice and even and a superb job with the P/E and rigging. Congrats!

Great Builds everyone!!

Here's what I have in the meantime:

Philippine Navy BRP Apolinario Mabini, 1:350 scratchbuilt. She was an ex-Peacock class corvette of the British Navy and was sold to the Philippines as a sign of "good relations.."

The whole ship is still "unarmed" and will have the full complement of guns after Christmas!

My entry the USS Balao SS-285 in this Group Build is now complete. It was a real struggle to complete it in the alotted time. All the parts, seven in the kit and the extra five I added made this a time consuming build, not to mention placing it in a water scene and all the painting I had to do in the build process, five, yes five different colors. Oh, I almost forgot about the two decals I put on the model.

Alec, your finished Yubari build looks great.

I'm now looking forward to more progress pictures from the rest of the builds.

My Tatsuta build is progressing. The oakwood hull was a challenge...setting the profile, then repeating on the other side. There were several rounds of filler/sanding involved, then a layer of filler to cover the wood grain. The hull still needs some minor filling, and P/E portholes. The aft deckhouse is mostly done except railing and the mast. The other deckhouses & funnels are next, then the bridge and torpedo tubes.

I've gotten sidetracked with too many other projects this month and haven't been able to get much done for the build. Question though the thread says it runs until Jan 10 but I've read others says its Jan 31. Which is it? I'll be able to work on my entry after tomorrow is over and just wanted clarification. Thanks.

This runs through Jan 31. The 'Jan 10' was for Jan 2010. Gives us all a little extra time.

Afghanistan and told them I was suicidal.

Here's my finished entry, the Hasegawa 1:350 IJN Yahagi. With a month to spare, I might start on one of these two IJN destroyers I have sitting on the table.

Hello Kym, the PE section, large square with that shed sitting on it, was this actually worth while, or would the original plastic part done the job as well ?

I think it was worthwhile, has a lot of fine detail, but the kit piece would still look nice for an out of the box build. I think only an IPMS judge with his dental mirror and flashlight would be able to see all the support beams under the deck though.

Thanks Gilbert and when I submit it to the gallery, you'll notice the little brass Chrysanthemum crest on the bow of yours.
