Yes I am. I know it's not good for the overall quality and care of the Udaloy, although she'll be mainly a sailing model rather than a "museum" model like yours. Of course I do try to achieve the maximum possible with this kit, but there are limits...

The other one however receives all care as I do eye a better quality and I might put it up on some cupboard in the hall or something alike.

Thank you for posting your pictures of helicopter and hanger. They are a great addition and inspiration for me to detail a future udaloy build. Neptunes build is pushing me closer to buying one of these models with each of his posts.

So a big additional thanks to Neptune for starting this build log. :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Todd,
my tip for you....
1. You can bay only hull (build with original shipyard plans) for 300 (without delivery cost).
2. The plans for projekt 1155 you can find in internet.
3. And it is cheaper than set 1/100 Arkmodel Udaloy because ( if you will build a good model) you have to change a LOOOOOT of things....

[quote="Neptune"]You're welcome.

Atom, Do you mean the hull or the anchors. As for the anchor chocks, indeed I will reshape them more later on. As for the hull, I'm not intending to change too much on the hull, I've already had to cut the aft part to pull it together, I've also added stuff to it, but sanding the bow to a more acceptable shape goes a little too far (and takes a lot of time). If I want a good Udaloy hull, I'll have to build it myself... (which I don't intend, although another ship is already on the building board).

I doubt that it will be cheaper in the end. Most of the plastic I'm using to fix things are parts of the kit/frames. There is a lot of excess plastic to use with eventual fixing of things. If you add delivery cost with that $300 then you'll come already quite close to what you pay for a full arkmodel Udaloy included shipping cost.
Buying only the hull still leaves you with a lot of designing of parts etc. Plans on the net are not always reliable and only show the portside of the ship, the linesplan on the net is that from the Pavlov book on Udaloy and that is also what Arkmodel has used, not exactly correct to say the least.
If I'd have to choose, although sometimes a head ache, I'd still go for the Arkmodel Udaloy instead of starting one myself.

Thanks for the picture of those anchor chocks, like I've shown and said before, I don't intend to cut a hole in the hull to make this recessed anchor chock. I'll see what I can achieve with what I have. It'll be equally good and only Udaloy experts will see the difference. (and there aren't many around in Belgium after all, I think I count exactly 1 :heh: )

Back to the aft superstructure and planning for Chaconia.

Plans on the net are not always reliable

--If you need this plans I can send you.... :wave_1:

and only show the portside of the ship

--It is wrong. This plan has about 6 sheet..... :thumbs_up_1:

the linesplan on the net is that from the Pavlov book on Udaloy

--It is wrong. It is from Fa. GSM (St. Petersburg).... :thumbs_up_1:

and that is also what Arkmodel has used.

If I'd have to choose, although sometimes a head ache, I'd still go for the Arkmodel Udaloy instead of starting one myself.

The hull from Arkmodel has a lot of mistakes...

The guy, who has drawn this plans by GSM, was projekt ingineer for 1155 "Fregat" and hi mast to change a lot of details on the model plans to get allow for sale from KGB.
Think about it. It is new for you :cool_1:

Thanks for the pics, I also have some close ups of those guns from the Concorde book on Udaloy/Slava/Sovremenny.
I'll have to build those myself too, but it will be a nice addition (if I can do it right).
As for those plans, I think Arkmodel still used those Pavlov plans, if not, then the drawings are quite wrong...

As for the plans you are proposing, they would be very welcome, everything I'm changing on this kit at the moment is done without having a plan, except for the Kharlamov plan from the net (and because I don't rely on it, I'm not using it that frequently). The bridge etc. I'll have to build myself as I'm not having any replies from Arkmodel and the pieces are missing. Also the helo deck was made by me as parts were not provided (except for the wrong helo handling system rails).

Do you have any more pictures of Tributs during that '92 deployment. I have all of these pics from Navsource.narod.ru, but I think there would be more of them available since they were having company from at least UK and US ships. The main issue is the colour scheme during that deployment. Any help regarding this is much appreciated!

I have a Pavlovs book about projekt 1155. And the "plans" in this book are far away from realy hull of projekt 1155.

And Pavlovs plan from the hull loocks 1:1 as the hull plan from GSM.

Actually, it is only one model plan of 1155 --- it is 1:100 "Admiral Levchenko" from GSM (St. Petersburg).

Atom,

Can you share the plans with me? I would like to model in 3D CAD.

so I continued.

Here is the initial problem, the deck with the helo landing aid wasn't broad enough, in reality it stretches out to the sides of the deck, with the support nicely in the corner.
Of course you'd think I'd know better by now, but I decided to model the helo landing aid with the best pictures I had, one taken by Dave on Levchenko... Stupid me, afterwards I checked and of course, as you could already guess, the one on Tributs is different! So I removed the nice stuff from Levchenko version and just turned around one of the remaining parts to get something similar to Tributs's. In addition I put the last deck piece on the side of the hangar and attached the helo landing aid. The FLYCO is painted but only dry fitted, I think I'll wait untill the deck is marked before I really glue it in place.
I've also thought of a system to be able to open and close the hangar roof, yet keep it fixed on the hangar so that I don't loose the parts when I'm putting her on the water! That will follow later on. As you can see the doors of the hangar can be opened and closed, I'll make a small locking pin to keep them closed during water trials.

So here it is dry fitted in place. Next step will be spraying of the white parts along with development of the hangar roof.
