Diving support vessel Seven Atlantic 1:75

Post by tweety777 »

Hello guys,

Before i started work on the Well Enhancer i had the Seven Atlantic on the planning as my next ship.
First plans were to build her in scale 1:50, but that means she would be 2,90m long, which is way to big.
Therefore i decided that 1:100 would be better, but then the interior would cause problems as that would had been too small.
Besides that, the Josse I still wasn't anywhere near completion, so i decided to wait till Josse I would had been finished and till i had found a solution for the scale problem.
Then i started working on the real Well Enhancer, and that made me start building a model of her too.
For the model i thought that scale 1:75 would be easy to calculate without a calculator, but i quickly found out i was wrong, but some special rulers have got that scale, so that solved the problem.
Also the issue of the interior was solved with scale 1:75.
Then i decided to build the Seven Atlantic in scale 1:75 as well, but starting this build would have to wait till a have the room for this giant, and till the Well Enhancer would at least be at detailing stage.
I still don't have the room to build her, but i'm working on the planning for the wiring and electronics for quite some time now.

The plans are to go even further with functions then i will on Well Enhancer, and majorly use all i've learnd on Well Enhancer to improve the building process of Seven Atlantic.
Some of the new functions are the gangways which can be deployed, more derricks, an entire warehouse for food and drinks for the crew, more groups of lights so i can turn on and off each of the DP-controls seperatly for example.
Seven Atlantic also has more boats on board, which will all be able to be deployed.
The planning is only at the starting stage currently, but i will find much more functions.
Control will be about the same as for Well Enhancer, using an instrumentpanel on the shore.

Here are some facts about the real ship:
Length: 145m
Breadth: 26m
Draught: 7m
DP-class: 3
Crew: 150

And here the model:
Length: 1,93m
Breadth: 0,35m
Draught: 0,08m
Number of working functions: Over 100, precise number not yet known.
Engine's: 3 Speed 700 Torque's, each powering an asipod, and 1 700 Torque powering a tunnel-bowthruster.
Hull will be build of polyester using a mold.
I will also use more plastics and metals.

Here's a photo of the real ship:

On the Well Enhancer i found out that even models of this size still aren't very accesseable inside, so on Seven Atlantic i will first place all the electronics and wiring inside the the hull, and add all the in- and outlets before i place the deck.
I will also use a false deck to be sure there wont come any water inside the hull.
When the false deck has been placed and tested i will continu with the first deck, and apply the walls on it.
The walls which are hard to reach will be placed fully completed so i can build everything in the best quality i can.
The detailing which is easy to reach will be placed last of all.

Greetings Josse

Had a lucky day!
Someone had promised me a while ago to make a date for making some pics aboard the real vessel, which is still not fully completed.
Today i decided to ask if there had been any progress about when i could come to make those pics, and the person who would take care of that said i could better call the captain himself.
And so i did, and after telling the story and asking if i could come to make some pics the captain told me that i could come as soon as i could, so i took the car and drove there.
On board i took somewhere in between 200 and 300 pics of verious kind's of details.
I was even allowed to make some pics inside the wheelhouse, which is extremely large and spacious.
Then the captain showed me his cabin, so i will be able to rebuild that as well.
I also had some questions about the purpose of curtain parts, and the captain fortunatly did know what the purpose of those parts is.
And now i got all i need (except room for building the model) to build this model correctly!

When I was onboard the Seven Atlantic I noticed that the wiring for the mast is in a rather unusaul place, being outside the casing rather then inside of the casings.
The wiring for the mast is clearly visible on the top of the bridge, running up to the mast.
All the wires and cabletrays (I thought that was what they called those parts that keep the wires in place and make sure the wires won't be hanging around just somewhere...) will be build in scale, but i would like to have it working like on the real ship.
Are there any wires for sale with this small diameter, but still with insulation?
Does it happen to be that there are tyraps in scale 1:75 for sale?

Yes indeed, cable trays are the tubes or bar-shaped things that hold cables inside.
If I were you, I wouldn't go as far as modelling that though, it'll be a pain in the ass, and technically it means you will have to model EVERYTHING that is of equal size or bigger, it'll take you a lifetime to finish anything close to it, as practically you'll be building every single part of that ship, even with all reference available, it'll be very hard to accomplish. It also means you'd have to build all fire hydrants, fire line, with all the supports of that fireline (as they are the same as wire wraps) etc. It'll be still breathtaking without all that I think, definitaly in such a scale.
Interesting ship though, you can see some of Jim Woods' work in the picture post too, he builds such ships too in large scale, pretty awesome.

Hi Neptune,

It indeed will be an awful lot of work, but is it is in very clear sight up on the top of the bridge i really will have to try it.
I don't care about how long it will take me to complete, but i will really make it.
I also will indeed add all other stuff of that size, even though it is really very much work.
Fortunatly i'm still only 20 years old, so i got plenty of time to complete her myself.
This kind of detailing will also be applied on Well Enhancer as well.
Because i'm not only working on a shipmodel, but also on my work i want to have it visible, otherwise it doesn't match my memories about the ships.
I've been aboard Well Enhancer and Seven Atlantic while i worked at the yard where they've been build.
