PT109 Green

Hi All,

I am currently building Revell's 1/72 PT109.

Can someone please suggest which tamiya green colour would be suitable.

Hi Russ; sorry but your answer isn't going to be of much help as the color shots are of a later boat using different paints than PT-109 did and the lower shots are of PT-109 before she left the states, still in pre-war Standard Navy Gray.

There is debate of the actual color used on PT-109 and I have no idea what Tamiya colors you'd have to mix to get either of the colors.

According to all of the well-known sources, the 109 was either in an overall Navy Green (5NG) or overall Tropical Green. Personally, ... and this is just MY opinion ... I think it's the overall 5NG.

But, if you choose either one, you cannot go wrong sir.

All of the paints that you would need, the 5NG, Tropical Green and the bottom paint are available from WHITE ENSIGN MODELS in their COLOURCOATS line. Their Norfolk 65-A Anti-fouling red paint is an excellent match for the Copperoyd color paint used on all USN small combatants during the war.

If you are going to model the 109 as she appeared before she was sent to the Solomons; an overall Gray scheme would be correct, although I'm not 100% sure of what Gray it would have been.

I'm not sure I would trust Garth's info- he's going to be 50 next week you know!

If you can, you could try mixing different shades with varied amounts of black and white. For me, the best solution was Testors Enamels Flat Olive. Olive Drab might have been better, but too late now.
