Yo Dave,
Further to my previous, I have just had a look at 'comparethemeercat.com' and Aleksandor advises 'finish 'Rurik'. Simples' (Squeak).
For our American friends, there is an advert on UK TV for a car insurance website that features a Meercat with a Russian accent! I and a lot of people find it hilarious. To see it is to treally appreciate just how daft it is.

Re: Some thoughts on the next scratch project ?
I guess the cats out the bag as they say . For some months now I have been searching for a suitable project to follow KIEV and I have been giving thoughts as to which direction to go in . I would still like to build Kirov but in 1:144 more research is needed and I need a sabbatical from "large" warships { Kiev when completed will have taken nearly 4 years} but as a longer term goal Kirov remains one of my must build projects. So with that in mind what ship will follow Kiev? The answer as some may well have guessed is the Steregushchiny or "Project 20380. A large OPV type warship but classed as a Frigate. The vessel is quite new entering service in 07 and really does retain some attractive features, often lacking in "stealthy warships. I would very much like to thank all those that have helped in providing information and support so this project can get off the ground so to speak.
Well here it is the next scratch build project .All being well Steregushchiny will be underway by June'July .

Dave Wooley For now back to Kiev

I agree, stealthy as she is, she's sleek and powerful looking - proof that even when they build stealthy, the Russians still keep a powerful look to their warships.

Thanks Timmy . I will be the first to admit it was touch and go as to whether I went ahead . But the guys on the board particulary Neptune, Mick and Atom44 have been very supportive and I am grateful for that help. Cheers guysTimmy C wrote:Excellent choice, Dave! Also, not sure if you know, but we do have a Stereguschiy thread in the CASF section that you might like to take a look at - I posted a few nice dry dock pics there

Ships are like cars. Cookie cutters that "are all made out of ticky tack and all look the same."
Any ship larger than a Destroyer is a waste of metal.

As much as I love the RN to bits . I have trod the decks of numerous RN warship over the past years, that being said my personal preferences are elsewhere. Although I still consider the Type 42 stretched as the best looking warship ever built in modern times and I have been on evey type 42.GTDEATH13 wrote:I know that you have made up your mind about the next project, but I would surely love to see this fine lady..

Hi Les whilst I cannot disagree with what you say. Choice is in the eye of the beholder. The same could have been said for every dreadnought, every battle cruiser, and every carrier. In one sense they where designed just as platforms to do a job no more. The fact that the some warships looked better than others was coincidental and remains so. Some of the best warships ever built were the ugly ducklings of the fleet.les wrote:Ships are like cars. Cookie cutters that "are all made out of ticky tack and all look the same."
