Yes, all the time. But on the other hand, no one see's them here. Better in a spot where many can see. I like to see peoples reactions when they are viewing. Can be very satisfying...........Except the occasional rivet counter or glue detectives......... :heh:

Rivet counters and glue dectives should be banned from all showings :heh: but I guess they make us strive for perfection that is never realy obtainable. :thumbs_up_1:

Yes, I agree. I do strive for "perfection", but I'm not Gibb's & Cox. I do it to the best of MY ability. What is perfection? To model exactly what a subject looked like for real? Yes,that's the end game, but I don't think any of us will ever get that far out.You can't duplicate everything. Well, maybe one could, but I don't have 10 or 20 years. There are many excellent modelers on this site. I have seen some amazing stuff.I just do what I do. Yes, there may be a glue bugger I missed, or something a bit out of whack, maybe that gun isn't pointed right.....The list could go on and on. I don't do any model contests anymore, they are a one sided affair. I could care less about the IPMS Nats or whatever.Your right in that they do try to make us strive for the perfection that is never really obtainable. Unless you got lots of time............. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the post. :cool_1:

Building for the general public is a lot more easy than for competition. The viewers are more appreciative of a model because they feel they couldn't build one. It's easy to criticize someone's work and be a rivet counter, but how many of them build a perfect model or any model at all?

By the way, at 57 you're still just a kid with a tiny bit do dew still behind your ears. Enjoy it! Age will creep up on you much slower. :thumbs_up_1:

I have been looking at your post several times and I must reply. First off, I don't build these for the "general public". I build them for museums. I can assure you they are more fussy than contest judges. The "viewers" are appreciative of the replica, such as the Santee specifically, because it represents a "moment in time" if you will. Even if they could build one or not ,I don't feel that is an issue. They are viewing a piece of history, which in many cases, has been scrapped long ago. It has been my experience that the "rivet counters", and the "glue police", are just wanna bees that take relish in picking apart other peoples work. And you are correct in that many of them don't build at all, or a novices at best. There is no"perfect" model. Lastly, I am not a "kid" anymore. I have graduated into an adult. I've seen more death and heartache in the last 4 years to last me a lifetime. And I have cleaned the "do dew" from behind my ears. Age is creeping up already, thats ok. The older I get, the better I get. So stay tuned, more to come............... Not knocking your post. Thanks for your thoughts, I'd just thought I would post mine................... :wave_1:

Bill,

No slight intended and none taken. Museum models are to a good standard, but the viewers are for the most part "general public." I agree with your statement about the rivet counters. You never see anything done by them. It's easy to criticize a model when you haven't experienced what it takes to produce it. Keep up the good work. Stay young.

The Indiana replica will be on permanant display at the Indiana War Memorial Museum, in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. The USS Indianapolis, CA-35, the build is posted at the top of this forum, is there, too...... Thanks for asking........ :wave_1:

BILL!!!!!

Every time I look at your battleship it really inspires me. It's some really nice work. It has made me think about how to do things myself and how to focus like you and I have talked about. It's interesting.

Keep up the great work, Bill. I am looking forward to see if you decide to weather the ship with differnt shades of the same color or not :D

Hang them all !

Bill,

I deal with you your way of seeing stuff.

Modelling, to me, is not only a "keep yourself busy therapy", it's also a way to share what we love, and of course, anyone has his own abilities, yours are waaaay above abilities of others (me included), but any modeller, good or bad, must be respected for what he does...

Years ago, I also was a nitpicker, and now, with the years, I realized that I just was such a wannabee as described above. The day I realized that, I've tried to better myself, on modelling and on respecting people, any people

Modelling is like magic. You, others & I do scratchbuild something from a 2D plan to a 3D object, we use therefore scrap or dedicated material, others glue kits or build resin kits, no one has to be looked down, and at last, the way we see bright stars in other's eyes looking at our models is the ever best reward we may ever get.

Respectful regards,

Laurent

Thanks for your post,Laurent. All I can say is that was well said. You are an Honest Man.....As I read your post several times, I feel that what you say comes from your passion for building. As it is for me. If I did'nt have the god givin skills, and the desire to do as well as I can, plus the fact that I really love doing this, I guess I would go nuts without the "hobby". For me, It's more than a hobby. It is trying to preserve the legacy of the men and the ships they served on, for future generations to get an idea of what cost freedom comes. I have met lots of the WW2 navy guys, and I got a lot of respect for them. And yes. it is a "keep me busy" therapy. It really chills me out.I am happiest in the shop. In regards to the "glue detectives, and the rivet counters",I can take constructive critisim all day long. But before ye critize, thou shalt be on the same level. I like input from other modelers. There are several on this site who do outstanding work. I have much respect and admiration for all of them. Be it scratchbuild, kit, resin, whatever medium.I have never heard a bad word from any of them. But I have had posts that have been downrite nasty. And yes, they got no photos of their stuff. So, I really don't pay attention to them anymore. I have been building models for over 40 years, scratchbuilding ships for 12. So I think I know what I am doing. Modeling is Magic!! What a good statement. And it really is, you know. The "bright stars" ARE the best reward...............Thanks for your Post..Bill W...... :thumbs_up_1:

Ok, enough of the glue police and the rivet counters! Back to the build. So far I have showed the build somewhat "raw". That is unpainted, so you can see the various mediums that are used on any givin assembly. The catapaults and the crane are now fully completed, painted and mounted in their positions on deck. Thought you would like to see photos of something thats finally finished! I won't caption each photo as I normally do. The only thing I have added to the cats since the previous post are the railings around the catwalks. Take a look, hope you enjoy....................
