Calling all Oliver Hazard Perry-class FFG fans

Hey guys, I have a question about how they handled the 26' Whaleboat on the Perrys. I've looked over a ton of photos and can't seem to find any good shots of how the boat davit launches the boat. Does it just hinge at the deck and lean the boat out over the water or is there more to it? I'm build one of DMLs 1/700 Perrys and I want to have the whaleboat being lowered.

I have already started the painting of the forecastle, decks and bulkheads first :

This model kit has no decals, that have to be improvised. The markings on the flight deck will be done using the same plan I used for drilling the holes. It will be quite boring, because all the lines will have to be made by pairs, masking and unmasking alternatively.

I had to improvise another plan for the vertrep markings on the forecastle :

The white lines are a bit wider than necessary, but I dared not make them thinner just in case the paint broke when demasking, with a very bad effect. I think the overall effect has nevertheless been achieved .

Les, the Revell Fletcher is one of my future projects, because I am simply in love with this class since I was a kid. I intend to build it as Spanish Navy D25 Jorge Juan, but I have to finish a couple of models first, and gather enough detailed info about these specific Fletchers.

GTdeath, this method I am describing is as easy as can be, so I do not wish you good luck, because it is simply impossible that you fail, but what Kortenaer 1/300 is this you are talking about ????????????????

And last but not least, Tony, have you got in stock a PE 1/300 or 1/350 at least of the AN/SPS-49, for this frigate I am building, or do you know of somebody who has it in stock ? Not the whole PE for the frigate, only this radar, alone or along with other radar sets.

Hi all,

This week I had some time to spend on my Santa Mar�a. As I have not clear yet how to make the HIFR lines on the flight deck I thought I could advance a bit on the chopper.

As you know, this is what has to be reproduced :

This is what was included in the box :

And this is what I had already done some weeks ago :

I added some minor details to complete the thing a bit more, and it is now like this :

The ground color is Humbrol Matt#64. The legend ARMADA is made with a HB pencil, covered with a drybrush in grey. All details are somehow oversized, but I could do nothing tinier.
The windshields were a headache, because they provide the expression or the face -- sorry I cannot make myself understood more clearly -- of the whole chopper. I have tried to reproduce this as well, but you will have to tell me wether I have achieved it or not.

In any case all the windshield elements and windows as well are made with a Rotring pen, which easier to handle than a brush, and whose ink provides a kind of satin gloss that helps to see the painting a bit more like glass.

Did you consider the Veteran Models Seahawk before trying the one that came with the kit?

I will soon be embarking on a version of HMAS Adelaide and have purchased the Veteran Model to use as a basis for the Seahawk - the detail is excellent and suits a lazy modeller such as myself.

Your work, however, is inspiring, to say the least.

No, I didn�t. Actually I was not aware of the existance of such a thing. Anyhow I am not very fond of resin. And the price, $19.00 gosh, the whole kit from Lee has costed $ 20.00...

But it seems to be quite a nice item, with carved windshields that can be filled with gloss varnish to imitate actual glass. Not a bad idea.

I've come up with a comprehensive decal sheet for the 1/350 Perry kits available on the market. The set will be available as is, or with either a hi viz or lo viz shaded hull number set for those ships that use USN style numbers. There are markings for every country that use an Oliver Hazard Perry class or similar style ship, including helo roundels. If you are interested, I need 20 pre-orders to send to the printer. I don't have pricing yet, I will get the quote when I get enough pre-orders and I will post the price after I get the quote. Hi all again,

After the chopper paintjob I thought I could make the derricks on the forcastle bulkhead, which are far easier.

This is what has to be done :

To build the pieces with styrene is as much as nothing, but the inner platform attached to each port and starboard derricks are very narrow, and do not leave virtually any place for the handrails, so I thought I could make them with pieces of PE handrail from a set of inclined ladders that I purchased last year to use the vertical ladders in the set.

They are now like this :

The whole structure is then like this, set in place but with no cement yet :

The inner platforms are now somehow more detailed without the conjunct being too detached from the bulkhead, what would be very unrealistic. The Stb. vertical ladder was not present in Oct. �06, but as it is a movable element I have assumed it can be built as well. The macro pics show the absence of a pair of minor details that can be added very easily --and will be today in the afternoon.

Two ( very tiny ) details, in case you are in time to modify the set :
(a) The numerals for the Spanish FFG�s are rounded, and not angled.

(b) The Spanish "1" should be redone, as it is not the same as in the US Navy -- obviously in grey:

It is 99% correct now. The objections are now almost pedantic. Your work is amazing !!!!
As for the angling and the "1", it cannot be better. Only the "2" needs some less angling, as it should be more like a swam neck, like this :

Yes, I'd be interested although, as with Willie, there are a handful of additions for the Australian decals.

- there are crests which appear on each side of the bridge
- there is a name plate on a block of wood with the name in chrome.

I'll get you some photographs if you like and post them on here.

Otherwise, count me in!!

What sort of price are we looking at?
