I'll try to do some research this w/e as well. I believe the Hara Shobo planset has Myoko 1941.

I'm lookiing at an on-line version of L&W and the answer appears on p.267 in an overhead comparison of bridge views of Nachi vs Myoko. This deck level is 2 decks below the compass bridge. These are crew rest areas, mostly for the 25mm AA positions. The Myoko's does not extend as far aft as Nachi's. I need to look more closely at the kit photo in comparison to the plans, etc. to render an opinion on the kit's accuracy.

crew rest areas hhmmm those 2 structures do look like some sort of locker rooms for ammuntion and that kind of stuff but now that you mentioned that those are crew rest areas it could be for sure. every drawing i have indicates that whole aft area was interconnected to the structure and this is something completely different to the way the kit was made. if you refer to the picture i took you'll see those 2 structures stand by themselves. i alwyas thought Myoko had the biggest bridge of them all?? let me know whatever you can dig up on this specially on the rest areas. thanks again Dan. I just went over Kym's Myoko and it seems once you've added the bulkheads on that level those 2 structures will get connected with the main structure, i got s%it load of homework for tomorrow but i'll try to get those bulkheads on to get this doubt out of my head already

this is what i've done so far, is not that easy getting those iron steps aligned but you know the saying no pain no gain..

it's just as i thought Dan ,those little structures don't go attached to the bridge. i want to scratchbuild the following level i didn't like how the floor rested on top of these little structures.

I've looked thru the L&W volume, the Classic Warships pictorial, Gakken #s 27 & 67, and the Hara Shobo planset. As far as I can tell, this particular level is the same on all 4 ships, though there may be differences in the size of the crew rest area from ship to ship. For instance, the L&W vol. indicates that Nachi (and perhaps the other sisters except Myoko) have larger compartments that extend even further aft on this level.

I believe the kit representation to be correct. The just released Navy Yard #13 has an excellent build of the 1/350 Myoko and would be a good reference source. I scanned this page as a reference point for you.

Dan I got the magazine on saturday, some beautiful models there i specially liked Yahagi. Myoko's modeler added tons of detail to the kit but he left untouched something im not sure about.. like right behind the bridge structure right beneath the main tripod mast there are two housings on both sides of the mast and i'm not satisfied to see those there all drawings i've seen point there is nothing there

Great work, Jose. I those housings my be the same crew rest quarters but, according to my references, they do not enclose the lower foremast on a 1941 Myoko.

thanks Dan, Gernot came through he scanned plenty of drawings specially one that shows aft of the bridge one of the best drawing i've ever seen and those housings do go there.. gotta go now i'll have a better update on things next weekend but with all this info i've gathered from several guys i'm sure i can finish it now. i thank you all again from, Peppe, Gernot, to you Dan. alot of work ahead of me now, 10 months of work that ought to keep me busy again

Curious what references Gernot scanned. If I don't have them, I'd love to get a copy.

The book is titled Japanese Heavy Cruiser MYOKO Class By Fuji Art Model Publishers, published in 1976. It is a hard-cover book in a nice protective box, and features a build of the 1:500 scale plastic kit then available (Nichimo?), and a scratch-built 1:200 Nachi as in March 1944, for which additionally a 1:400 plan set is provided at the back of the book. As you can see, the models are of superlative quality, and the drawings equally so. No doubt new information has become available since then; however, I would reckon this book is still worth having in one's library.

Thanks for answering Dan's question Gernot, i've been real busy with the finals good thing today was my last day i got a free week or so to work on the ship until the summer semester.

Gernot your Haguro's drawings clearly shows an enclosed compass bridge so next step on that level will the construction of bulkheads

Most compass bridge levels in the IJN were not closed off; bulkhead with entranceway.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, Jose. Not sure about the doors behind the compass bridge, though. Don't think there are any, just an open pass thru.
