Christian,

What you label as an air pipe is actually the lead in tube from the long wire radio antennas to the radio shack which is under the starboard twin 40mm mount.
The rounded end of it is actually a ceramic insulator with a metal bolt in the very center to attach the antenna wire. The ceramic had a reddish brown glaze on it. The antenna wire ran up to the yard arm level of the mast and split there with several wires running to the aft stack.
Figure 3-32 on the following page gives the deneral idea.

I'm doing the USS Barton, DD 722 as she was in the mid-1960s.
Hi Russ,

a nice project :thumbs_up_1: I hope to see some progress in the near future :wave_1:

Christian,

Do you have any updates at all concerning this project? We would all love to see anything else you have done!

Hi Christian,
As followed your WIP, I noticed one picture that you tried to test the hedgehog on DDR conversion. A DDR conversion youre built is Destroyer Escort Radar (DER) picket? If its true I would like to know what kit & scale of that DDR. Many of my friends want to build DER USS 251 Camp but couldnt find the right kit and Mk 22 gun. Really appreciate your help and thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,

I'm very pleased by you interest, but I'm sorry, there is no update at the moment. Only the boot topping is still painted black.
I have finished my HMS Glowworm last month, but I have a lot of real work to do at the moment, so there is only less time for modelmaking. Also there are some more projects next to USS New and I can't decide what to finish resp. to restart next

But promised, I will post any progress on USS New here in MW.com!

Hi vnaff5,

my mistake, it was not a DDR but a DER conversion! Yes, I have one in progress, I would like to build USS Calcaterra (DER-390) in scale 1/350. I start this conversion at the beginning of 2009. I have used Trumpeters USS England as a basic, the superstructure was made of some plastic platting, masts and stack of some plastic tube and rod. The Mk. 22 guns are loaned from JAGs Ashville PG. If you have some more questions, feel free to contact me via this WIP or send me a PM.

Hi Dave,

sorry no, she's still in the yard. I start painting the boot topping for a while, but found some marks (need some more sanding) along the waterline. So far I left her untouched because of some other RN ships I'd like to finish.
To much models and only less time. Stay tuned, don't know when but I will finish her :wave_1:
Cheers,
Christian

I'm **really** late to this party, but WOW! Christian, you're an inspiration! I hope my Orleck comes out 10% as nice as what you've done so far. Any more progress since 2010??

Jennings, thanx for your very kind comment and your interest. Yep, I put a lot of work into the model but there is no progress since 2010. I'm not to fancy to work on the model and changed my interest to Royal Navy and German Navy ships. All the parts are well packed and maybe I start working again some day. But working on the model was a good experience to super detail a ship model with self made parts, so it was not for nothing!
Cheers,
Christian
