CNC Machine Roland MDX-40

Post by andhikae »

Dear All Ship Builder

I have operated a Roland MDX-40 CNC Machine for years (it doesn't mean I'm good in modeling......).
My interest in modeling lead me to build a submarine 2 months ago. See my post....

The machine capable to create a new design model based on digital 3D model. How detailed? Roland MDX-40 can precisely handle until 0.01mm resolution.
Is there any idea to start a ship project?

Same here. Mori Seiki NV5000 at work, Millport 3KV fitted with an Ajaxcnc control at home.

What kind of CAD/CAM do you use? I use Solidworks and Mastercam.

TommyL. ( Yeah I'm back after being gone for so long. )

Hi Tom,
Wow........ good tools
I use 3Ds Max for modeling and export via DXF to Modela Player 4 (Roland MDX-40 software). Modela player will generate the tool path and executed the machine. See my project at http://x5model.blogspot.com/2009/09/goo ... rigid.html
Now I'm doing on Goodyear Blimp model 1:200 scale with Mr Ron Crawford (USA).

Thanks for your comment, I'm waiting the reply for long time. Sorry for the late reply.

Hey,

I know its been a long time since I've read this or even bothered to reply. That's really nice! Clear Lexan?

I assume you held that in a vise, I don't see a lot of room for clamps.

Hi Tom,
I was using white clear Plexiglass 10mm, the best result than any other plastic. Like a 'crispy' material that create smooth texture. I don't use any vice or clamp, just put double tape at the bottom side.
