True, but I really don't like working with resin - I can get along with a Corvette/Sloop etc, but I think anything like a Destroyer or larger would be a bit too much (not to mention the price, i'm pleading poverty as a student!)

Re: 1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit
I really wish a company would produce some of the Regia Marina kits in plastic. The Italian navy of WWII is truly a ghost fleet when it comes to modeling. Other than some resin kits that come out of Italy, there are no kits out there.
I know it is a farcry, but there may be some hope. Italy did have some beautiful ships that were build before and during the war.
Other than that, my wish list is (in no particular order)
RN Roma,
USS Enterprise CVN-65, modern
USS Midway CV-41 as built.
USS Midway CV-41 Gulfwar
Tennesse class rebuilt.
USS Wasp CV-7 WWII
USS Ranger CV-4 any
Any and all Royal Navy aircraft carriers WWII
Any modern US carrier in 1/700 (reasonably priced) $50.00 and under.

1/700 PLAN stuff would be pretty damn neat to see. I'd love to do a 052C and then somehow come up with a KDX-III, an Atago, and a Taiwanified Burke IIA.

I completely agree about Regia Marina. i would have thought the italian battleships at least would sell.des_sniper wrote:I really wish a company would produce some of the Regia Marina kits in plastic. I also agree that RN carriers would be great subjects.
On the last item on your list, you know you can get the Trumpeter Nimitz class for under $50 from Hong Kong?

I am quite surprised that Trumpeter hasnt made a line of 1/700 PLAN ships. There would be a market for it easy.
I have noticed that alot of the plastic companies seem to be shying away from the most modern ships comming out. HMS Horizon class, FREMM class, De Zeven Provincin class, F-100 lvaro de Bazn class, Visby class, Milgem Class, Freedom class, Independence Class just to name a few. Cost cannot be the major factor as most of these new classes are based on stealth technology. About the only things to cast would be the hull, superstructure, and some lose pieces. Listing price would be between $30-35. minus photoetch.

Trampeter's got a lot of the PLAN in 1/350, and I heard rumour the 1/700 versions were coming Soon but I doubt that. I'd love to get a few of the modern PLAN ships, 051C, 052C, 052B, I think it'd be absolutely cool to have some modern PLAN stuff. Of course, then I'd have to find a really pale gray to do them properly.

I like to think that it's because they're ugly as sin. But on a more serious note, maybe the companies believe that modern non-american ships won't sell as well as American ones. We'll probably see a Littoral Combat ship in 1/350 or 1/700 alot sooner than say, a Type 45 DDG or Horizon Class DDG.I have noticed that alot of the plastic companies seem to be shying away from the most modern ships comming out. I still think the big Japanese companies should do a 1:700 Clemson/Caldwell/Wickes in WWII fit, or a Dutch Admiralen-class. They sank enough of them in the East Indies to grant us at least the enjoyment of building models of them.

Re: 1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit
Hell, it wouldn't be too hard for a company to take a moment, and make an upgrade sprue to replace/upgrade parts of a Burke so as to give us at least a KDX III ship. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the Korean, Chinese, German, Spanish and such. It'd be really nice to see some foreign stuff, I'd love to put a KDX3, a Burke, and a 52C right beside each other. Shame they rank so low to companies.

Re: 1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit
Does anybody know what the yardstick for a sucessful model is in the eyes of the manufacturer? For example, there are 50 of us who would love to see a plastic SCB-125 Essex kit according to the poll. There are even more folks for a couple of other kits. How many sales do the big companies target to justify a new kit.
Just a thought.

Re: 1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit
Plastic injection requires that thousands if not tens of thousands must be sold to justify the expense. 50 might justify a nice resin kit.

What I'd really loove in plastic would be RN cruisers(county and town) and the US Brooklyn class and the Witchita. While I'm dreaming the York and Algiers would also be refreshing.

Re: 1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit
I'd like to see a series of 1/700 Plastic USN Auxiliaries:
Destroyer Tenders: Dixie class (already in resin), Shenandoah class, Yellowstone class
Submarine Tenders: Hunley class, Simon Lake class, L.Y. Spear class, Emory S. Land class
Repair Ships: Vulcan class (already in resin), Amphion class, Klondike class
A lot of nice dioramas could be created with every one of these.

How about a King George V class BB? Late war would be nice.

Tamiya already produces the King George V class, in both stages, and all four of the class.
