Will, I'll send you Kirov plans too. Also submarines if you want.
I am new on the block. I would like to have hull plans for the kirov class in any scale if one of you would be kind enough
to share it. I am planning to do a scratch model in the near future.
thanks

A very interesting blog of a Russian photographer who is embedded on board of the Petr Veliky, lots of the deck shots for the superdetailers:

Varyag will be open for tours this Thursday in San Francisco.
Japan, Russia and U.S. warships to dock in S.F.
Carl Nolte, Chronicle Staff Writer
Saturday, June 19, 2010
San Francisco will host sailors from three different navies this weekend, including a port call by a U.S. cruiser, a Japanese training squadron and a rare visit by a Russian guided missile cruiser.
All the ships - except the cruiser USS Bunker Hill - will be open for public tours next week.
The first vessels to arrive will be three ships from the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, as the Japanese navy is called. The three, led by the training vessel Kashima, are expected at the Golden Gate Bridge around 12:30 p.m. today. They will anchor in the bay and tie up Monday at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero. A welcome ceremony, open to the public, will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m.
The Japanese ships will be open to the public that day from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m.
The USS Bunker Hill will sail under the Golden Gate Bridge at 2:30 p.m. today and will tie up at Pier 17. The ship will not be open to the public.
The Russian guided missile cruiser Varyag is expected under the Golden Gate Bridge about 1 p.m. Sunday. It will dock at Pier 30-32, south of the Bay Bridge about 2 p.m.
Though Russian commercial ships and smaller research and Russian coast guard vessels have called at San Francisco Bay, no Russian warship as large as a cruiser has visited San Francisco in many years.
The Varyag will be open to the public on Thursday, probably from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If anyone here is going to see any Russians in San Francisco please get HEAPS of pictures for us that can't visit. Lets see who can post more than someone else.

I was planning to shoot the ship today from the Golden Gate Bridge, but unfortunately it arrived before I got to the bridge, so I had to settle for taking the photos from the pier. I'll do my best to get there on Thursday for the ship tour, but due to several complications that is not certain at the moment. Meanwhile here is a preview:

Great pictures, good of you to post them. Now, could you ask them to turn the ship round and moor the port side next to the quay for your next set?
There are some areas of the ship that I can't find pictures of, so if you're looking for suggestions of what to photograph...
The ramp between the helideck and the hangar
The gear on the SAN-6 missile deck
The areas under the SSN-12 launch tubes

Did anyone get to take pictures of the Russian ships visiting the US?

The only other ones were the JMSDF ships, which he posted here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=55434
But yes, it'll be cool if we had more shots of the Varyag!

Unfortunately the line to get in was about a mile long and the ship was only open from 10am to 1pm, so no I didn't get to go on board (a guy that I know got in line at 9:50 and was still about 30 minutes away from the gate at 1pm). A friend of mine did and took about 20 or so shots, so as soon as I get it from him, I'll post them.

Yupe...this was a really frustrating experience. But on the other hand a Russian co-worker of mine said the ship had already been open to public for a couple days before today. He was able to park pretty much right next to the ship and went aboard for a tour. All local medias said today is the only day for public tours though.

UN-altered REPRODUCTION and DISSEMINATION of this IMPORTANT Information is ENCOURAGED, ESPECIALLY to COMPUTER BULLETIN BOARDS.

Hey guys, I'm the Main Propulsion Officer aboard the USS Bunker Hill and I took plenty of pictures when the Varyag was in San Francisco.
The first half are from when we got personal tours of the ship when we did an exchange.
The other half are from the PASSEX we did offshore.
Any questions, please let me know. A great time was had by all.

Hi Klems,
since you are able to answer questions....
Just to port of the twin funnels and the large crane there is a tall structure, that looks as though its meant to raise and lower. What is its function? Is it some kind of lift/elevator?
Many thanks!

Give me a ping, Vasily. One ping only.

Hi NorthSea,
Yeah I noticed that as well when I was aboard. Best I can make out is that it is the lift elevator used in Connected Replenishment operations. A pallet is attached to the flange you see, and is then raised off the deck and sent over to the recieving ship.
We have the same system for US Navy ships. I, however, could not locate the UNREP refuleing port the fuel probe sticks into.
