Hi Roy Yep I just love the Albion Alloys material . You can even get the tube in micro bore to take wire that is ultra fine . They are good very good.
That particular size is exellent for replacing plastic, resin or p/etch AA barrels in 1/700

Progress at the moment is centered on the completion of the island superstructure .
Although all the part were prepared well in advance a little tweaking here
and there didnt go amiss.
Progress so far. Im about half way through assembling the fittings onto
the various platforms. Fixing the main radar arrays and I fear my heart rate will miss a few beats!!!

As mentioned Im adding each of the prepared fittings to the main superstructure.
Some like this Rum Tub long range ESM array where left till later. Later has arrived
and this fittings is on the list.
Image
Like so much on this project there is precious little in the way of clear working
drawings as to the shape of so many of the fittings on Kiev. The Rum Tub array
is a good example. The shape was a problem solving exercise is geometry.
I deduced that it would be better to work on a base that represents the
shape of the platform as fitted to the model . A start was made by marking
and cutting the top and bottom shapes . Whilst each array has 4 different angles the
back and side panels where the constant at 90degrees to the base .
Image
The back and side panels are added to the base the top can then follow
Image
Using .50 styrene sheet the front was covered over
Image
Trimmed off
Image
The front surface is now ready for the strips of styrene to simulate the individual
paneling on the face of the array.
Image
Image
Each set , port and starboard are lightly sanded down until the strips of styrene
on the front surface is just about visible.
Image
All are given a dusting of paint a sanded again ready for the final air brushing.
Image
At last progress is gaining pace and it will not be long now before the superstructure
is fitted into place on the hull.
