And a question:

Does anybody know why did they change the layout of the bridge deck (raised sps panels and aft bridge part) and from which ship of the class did this take place? Or did the Navy change all of the class bridges?

They raised them in the Flight II Burkes (Oscar Austin and later) so that they could see over the helo hangars.

I need to know the location of the reels with the ropes for mouring... Or are the ropes stowed below decks?

Are you referring to the mooring lines? If so, you'd have to check with someone who served in the Navy (I didn't) to be sure but I don't think I've ever seen them stored on a hose reel. Presumably, they're stored internally for protection from the elements.

The picture of the Barry is a hose reel, it is a hard rubber non collapsible hose used for AFFF firefighting foam. On modern USN ships, the mooring lines are stored out of the weather and are not visible.

Thanks for the info Mr Landrum. The same type of reel is used for refueling the helicopter with fuel (JP5)... There are two such reels at the for section of the helo deck, one with AFFF (aqueious fire fighting foam?) and one with fuel...

So if all ropes all stored below deck, all visible reels on a ship of the class are hoses?

You are correct the visible reels are AFFF (red reel) except the JP-5 (NATO F-44) reel on the flight deck. That reel and its associated piping is purple.

Ok, more questions:

How does someone access these points:
- SPG decks aft
- large whip antenna platform fore of the aft funnel
- small whip antenna platform aft of the fore funnel
- aft ciws platform
- small platform fore of the fore funnel with the radome and the small whip antenna

What kind of equipment would someone find on 01 deck around the aft funnel. Is there a specific use for this area?

What kind of equipment, although it does not seem possible, would someone find on the 02 level aft of the bridge?

Is there supposed to be a ladder from 01 level SRBOC deck to 02 level on the right side of the ship?

Is there supposed to be a ladder on the right side of the small platform at 01 level below the aft ciws platform, just forward of the right harpoon launcher position?

Here are access ladders (circled in red) for the aft CIWS and SPG platforms.

The lower ladder on the CIWS level allows access to the upper portion of the CIWS housing and from there to the SPG platforms.


There is also a small ladder for access to the lower portion of the CIWS housing as shown below. You can also see the SPG ladder in the upper right, though I didn't circle it on this photo.

Thanks a lot Bob, found some pics from navsource myself... There is also a hatch at each SPG platform leading from inside the ship...

I am also lloking for any pics of the boat crane. There are two types being used, changing from flight I to flight II ships... I need to find where the operator of the crane stands and where is the crane's winch, topside at the base of the boom or at the back of the base?

I also need to know why where the srboc ready boxes painted white... Perhaps to avoid heat increase?

Ready Use Lockers or RULs as well as most radomes are almost always painted white for heat reasons. Recently the Navy has switched over to a light gray color probably in an effort to reduce the visibility of those systems. It looks like a similar shade to the light gray used in the subdued hull numbers.

I also found that there was no ladder on the right part of the srboc deck.

The aft platform of the fore funnel is accessed with a vertical ladder at the back of the funnel:

Does anybody what is this whip antena highlighted in the red box?

I have noticed that it is erected only when the ship is afloat and in port it is bent forward on a stand.

I have seen this whip only in flight I ships...
