1/700 Alameda Naval Station 1945

Just a comment about the water color. I spend a lot of time at that pier currently and the water there is MUCH greener. I can provide some photos if you need them. Unless of course your going to paint it later in your build.

Yes.. I am going to be using acrylic jel mixed in with field green.... the blue is just a base.. but if you can send pics Id like to reference. Thanks in advance.

On the 1945 picture I think you can see that the mast has a forward upside down triangle shape older mast ....while the new mast was more boxed. If anyone can confirm...

The appearance of water color to the eye depends uponthe light on it, as well as various physical characteristics. Thus, on a cloudy day, it might appear to be green but on a sunny day somethig else. Attached are various photos that I found of the waters in and around the pier area of NAS Alameda over a period of time.

Obviously, there is also a change in perceived color as the angle of the eye/camara to the plane of the water changes.

I am down there a lot. The water is Definitely green in broad daylight. I would personally say most of those photos do not correctly convey the color to an observer on the deck of a ship there.

The 1985 photo is pretty close for early morning. The water tends to very green in the bay due to pollution and nice cold California water.

As i said, i will attempt to get some better photos soon fro a higher angle in a mid-day lighting.
