French Navy: a new heavy cruiser book

Just published: a big book on Washington Treaty heavy cruisers Suffren and Colbert of the French Navy.
Huge monographs, with French text, but plenty of rare photographs, plans, diagrams and four double page of large color profiles describing both ships at different periods from their commissioning to their last refit.

During the inter war years France built seven heavy and a dozen light cruisers.
Until now all but the four Suffren class heavies had been covered by extensive monographs from both French editors Lela Presse and Marines Editions.
This last volume covers in deep details the first pair of this class: Suffren and Colbert.
A later volume will cover Foch and Dupleix and will complete the French cruisers entire range.

Both spent the early WW2 years in the Mediterranean Fleet. Suffren was caught in Alexandria by the Fall of France and was later returned to the Free French Fleet. She operated in the Mediterranean for the rest of the War.
Colbert was in Toulon when France fell and ended scuttled there in November, 1942.

I got this book and with previous part devoted to Duquesne-Tourville pair they created the best sours of French Marine Nationale Heavy Cruisers.
I'm unpatiently wayting for next Foch-Dupleix part. I also hope the Author will take under consideration possibility to focus on Algerie, 7th and the last (and deliberately) the best Washington Cruiser built.
It is true she was described in Mr. Moulin/Maurant work Le croiseur Algerie, Marine Editions, 1999 but when compared with Mr.Garier books about four first French CAs I feel a bit of disappointing.

And one more thing:
I have bought the book Les Contre-Torpilleurs type Guepard, by Jean Moulin, edited lately by Marine Editions.
After wanderful Mr. Lassaque's books devoted to Milan-Epervier and Vauquelin-Maille Breze-Chevalier Paul-Tartu-Cassard-Kersaint groups (not to mention Jauguar, Le Fantasque, Mogador Classes books), I'm again a bit disappointed with this long awaited continuation of Four-Funnelers saga.
Construction, service and technical aspects are described very well but Illustrations (both photos and dravings) are partially very poor both if considering qualitu (size) and sellection (maybe should be taken into consideration a book of "En images" series with this Class as an aidd to mentioned book).
But I hope next one announced, devoted to Aigle-Albatros-Gerfaut-Vautour will be a step ahead.
Anyway whatever to say it is a must for every Marine Nationale light forces fan.

D'accord Miroslaw, the new L�la Presse volume on the Suffren & Colbert by G�rard Garier is superb. I love the delightful watercolour paintings (which I assume were especially commissioned for this book) and I too can't wait until the next volume on the Foch & Dupleix appears......

I agree the new Marines �ditions volume on the Gu�pard class contre-torpilleurs by Jean Moulin was a little disappointing after the previous titles by Jean Lassaque, but it's better than nothing. I think we were spoiled by the quality if the earlier volumes. it's taken such a long time to get this book, so I wonder if one on the Aigle class class will ever appear......

Hi all,

G�rard Garier is a well known modeller, he wrote a lot articles in the french modelling magazine "le Mod�le R�duit de Bateau" during the eighties covering french warships, from predreads till later battlewagons.

I always have admired what he wrote.

I have just ordered it and can not wait for it.
BTW I found interesting site http://www.catalogue.archives.nantes.fr devoted to iconographic history of Nantes.
I found there 15 pics of Contre-Torpilleur Verdun paying visit in Nantes plus some of Volta.
I have problems to search out all site to find others pics of "navires" connected to Nantes (like Leopard, Lynx, Tempete, La Palme,
La Railleuse, Brestois, Fougueux plus others) but they should be there I'm sure.
