Learning Solidworks

Post by TommyL »

Here is a sample of solidworks. I'm learning this through playing around. If anyone can help explain how to make a 3d ship hull using splines please do so. An accurate solid model would be great because I could then export it to masterCAM and start making tool paths to machine.:help_1: :please: CAD has the worst learning curve! CAM is going to be just as bad to learn.:faint:

I am not that familiar with the solid works commands. I can post some step by steps in AutoCAD in a few days.

But to give you something to play around with. Try this: Create the hull lines, I use p-lines in ACAD. Once they are done, place them along the keep at the proper fame numbers. You should then have an option to loft a surface along them. I use the surface to slice a solid and join it to others sections as I creat them.

I bought "Solidworks For Dummies," wich is not a great reference but it has helped some. The For Dummies line seems lack luster but helps give a simple understanding of whats going on. Trail and error seems to be best.

I know this an older topic but what you would want to do with solidworks is do a surface loft. it will make the whole process tons easier. I been using solidworks for years to do aircraft fuselages and other than being time consuming setting things up its super easy to loft in solidworks
