If you're still around, Wayneb, I'd like to offer any assistance I can with regards to layout and markings.

I have attached a few more photos showing deck markings and colours, and another portion of the deck layout.

Regards,

Dave

Here is a profile show showing the details of the superstructure.

Note the position of the "C" channels supporting each of the decks!

Here's the result at the end of the first night's modelling of the superstructure.
Does anybody have any clear photos of the port side of the structure?

Cheers,

Dave.

I've spent the day looking at line drawings and translating them into 3D.

Here's the latest render and a photo I found showing a view of the hangar from the deck.

As I have the details for the 1968 refit, I have been looking for details of the antenna for the superstructure.
Here is a render of the 277Q found on deck 3 above the wheelhouse.
I hope to have a number of these available in 1:72 (~64mm height) scale later.

I managed to chat with Wayneb. He is busy with new family, and commitments change.
I hope we see him on the board again soon.

Are you able to send me those plans be photos also. I am an architecture student and currently studying INS Vikrant. Any idea of the layout internally would be great on a typical majestic/colossus class ship. My email is j.myerscough3567@student.leedsbeckett.ac.uk

Thanks!

Hey Hump - old Mate. Good to see you here. Anyone that has first hand knowledge of any carrier can be of great help to us modelers.

Hi all,

Have a look at my 1:350 version of Karel Doorman (ex Venerable), made by cutting up the Heller 1:400 kit and making appropriate inserts. quite satisfied with the Hull shape.
Sorry, need to resize the pictures first before i can publish them here.

Wow Maarten, that is another great kitbash/scratch-build job you have done there! You might want to send emails to me photos of the entire collection of your scratch-build models? :heh: They are really inspiring!

Well Aop,
That would be quite a long list, I only want to post those I think are of general interest.

Haven't seen any updates on here for a while, but I bought an Airfix 1:600 HMS Victorious over xmas and thought it should be possible to make a 1:600 Melbourne. Two 20mm plugs were cut out of it near either end, and the centre hull sections each narrowed 5mm and rejoined. Took a bit of surgery, but in fact the result is surprisingly good.

Found the same plans as the OP author, looking at lots of photos. Initially I thought the stern and bow could just about be used as is, but on closer inspection, there are a lot more differences than I imagined. At the stern, Victorious is quite rounded with considerable over-hang, whereas Melbournes stern is almost a transom with hull plating going up to the flight deck. On Melbourne the flight deck rounds in appreciably whereas its almost rectangular on Victorious.

Have a soft spot for this ship and its aircraft, as I probably kicked the tires on a few A4's that were ex RAN after NZ bought them.

I think this kit conversion could work quite well, I don't know if my approach has been optimum, I just started hacking and rejoining, and learning as i went.
