IJN Minesweeper W-19 class Tamiya 1/700

After nearly finishing my tiny Subchaser (viewtopic.php?f=59&t=61571&start=20) I started a little larger project: an IJN Minesweeper W-19 class in 1/700 (again from the Tamiya Auxiliary vessels kit). It�s a very simple model and lot improvements are possible. One objective is to get a better painting then the grainy appearance of the Subchaser.

: �1� depicts the original part. I removed some plastic details (�2�) to add a new brass deck (�3�).

: Modification of main guns. For the blast bags I used Teflon tape.

: Some details added and masked for simulating hull plating

: After 1st air brush (no primer, only Kure grey (lightened a bit for scale effect)

: Another angle

: Complete progress so far. The pipe on the partially detailed funnel is a bended 1/350 Master IJN 25mm barrel.

I think the W-19 class among their handsomest minesweepers. I know you'll do this one proud.

I have to say, I've been watching both of your tiny builds, and I am extremely impressed!

Now, one question: what PE set did you use for these?

Dan, I agree with you that the W-19 class was among the IJN handsomest minesweepers. I hope I will do her justice. Thanks for your confidence!

Here my progress:
I mentioned some of the PE I used. (FH=Flyhawk, Rb=Rainbow, R and LE=>Lionroar, VTW=Veteran Model).
This time I did not use primer. Some of the parts are only dry fitted. The masts are still very naked and I am still working on the stack.

Here some more details added to the masts:
The crow�s nest is a short segment of brass tube which I modified by grinding and sawing with a Proxxon minidrill. The ends of the tube were closed with a layer of micro kristal clear. After painting this looks like one part.

I decided to add a type22 radar. There are some photos of W-19 class minesweepers prepared to receive a type 22 radar. There was already a cylindrical pylon. Here I used a nicer lattice structure which was one variant for Matsu-class destroyers.

I started with the rigging (UniCaenis). For the canvas imitation I used again Teflon tape and for the straps of the boats dental floss.

Potchip, I agree with Dan and Bob. Your W-19 is nice "fast food".

And I am happy that my progress report helped you to start your nice minesweeper.
Your subhunter had to wait for a long time to get her companion.

I continued with my version. Here a picture in the "David Bilek style". I am a non smoker and not so easy for me to organize a cigarette.

I think for 1/350 this is still okay but for 1/700 these flags are too large and the texture is too coarse.
I used these on my Chokai, Tone and Mogami, for example
