Great job! I wouldn't have taken the risk of fully outfitting her with all the deck business either. Great to see the project finished at last, up to the next one

Hi Roel I must add that it was thanks to you that the project got started in the first place. Now all that remains is to fit out all the remaining deck equipment cranes etc , airgroups , crew and of course the ships boats . With those tasks completed then and only then can I say this "model build is at an end". The final job will be to transport the model 300k , marry up with the case on site and that will be it and yes i will do my best to get the pictures on that day .
So after February 20th when I arrive back I'll open a new chapter on a new model

I have to say I am sorry to see the day. I joined the forum about the time you guys were discussing the small details of the hatch on the bow, and I was blown away at your attention to detail! It was great to see the work of someone who really cared about getting it right. I have followed your build since then, checking the forum every day for more insights into your modeling techniques. I understand your joy at seeing it on the water, but it means the end is near for this thread and a lot of us will miss it.

Congratulations! Job well done!

I will be following your next build with the same enthusiasm.

In many ways I too shall be saddened by closure on this project, having absorbed a build period of almost four years. Yet there are many positive aspects to this which makes closure to one project a door opening to another. For me an important part of the build seldom discussed that rides alongside the research and construction is being able to bounce thoughts and discuss the vagaries of this or that fitting with , how it functions and why it is fitted. Basic fare for the model maker but this brings in the human contact bit which is often left behind in the desire to accumulate ever more information. Although I have the privilege of being the builder I have had help along the way from modellers and non modellers alike which I am very thankful . This to me is as important and as enjoyable as building the model . Thank you for looking in and taking an interest in the Kiev this is also appreciated and an added part of the construction thread. Yes I to shall miss this build.

Well said Dave, as a relative newcomer I have also enjoyed the opportunity to "meet" so many new friends around the world through this great hobby, I am also learning a lot about myself . In addition, I for one will revisit your build regularly as I press on with my journey. Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi Chris Good to here from you. I have been following closely you magnificent Nimitz build and you have chosen a subject which a vastly more complex than Kiev but your, technical, methodical and focused approach to the whole constructional process is just inspirational. Once again thank you for you support and interest in the Kiev. As a foot note fitting out the deck is underway and should be completed by the first week in February . If there was any pangs of reflection I would have like so much to have had the decks active during the commissioning sail but needs must. The next time Kiev will be in full flow with decks a buzzing will be in a case.

There is one such shot that was amongst the many that where taken on the day . One of the group members had his camera at water level and fired off four torpedos , correction shots . My imagination is ahead of me ! Must have a closer look at those !

Decending from the adrenalin fix of Sunday and even lthough the Kiev project is winding down there remains the issue of arranging the deck activity . This work has just begun based on arrangements which were shown in previous pages. I really enjoy this side of carrier building as it involves skills that I have yet to perfect. I've a short window to ensure that all of this is fixed into place and secure . So here is a brief glimpse of the work that is being done .
