Hi Song Jung Gun When I add any timber to my builds I prepare the surface for paint with a sanding sealer then sand down untill smooth then apply another coat and so on until the grain is invisible . Will you paint the model or leave it in its natural wood effect ? A very impressive build

You asked the question I was thinking when this build started. I watched the images of the beautiful carved wood hull taking form, and I thought it was just too pretty to be painted. Something like True Oil (high quality linseed oil) seemed more appropriate. But the hull was painted - it does make a more realistic model!

I once built a plank-on-frame sailing ship hull, and was pondering how to paint it. I eventually decided I liked the pattern and colors of the natural wood planking, so I left the upper hull unpainted. Maybe it wasn't true to the real ship, but I just couldn't bring myself to hide that beautiful wood.

I think I could never work entirely in wood like Mr. Song Jung Gun. After creating such a beautiful wooden model I would always want to keep the natural wood finish - more of a work of art than an accurate model.

Yes I look differently at Song�s Roma more art than craft and ponder the same thoughts, like a shipwright model that remains faithful to the texture of the original material preferring the timber surface to that of paint .

Hi Dave!
Yes I fix into position major structures and small fittings fix later. Sometimes fittings is located inside df structures then fix the fittings. My working sequence: 1. from lower to upper 2.from inside to outside 3. from bigger to smaller.

I use water soluable wood glue. No smell and When I have mistake It"s very easy to remove.

The model is realized by project or as Rome was delivered to the Italian Navy, in the second case , of the four supports for the boats on the deckhouse aft only the first two (per side) were mounted , instead of the other two were mounted one on each side two aa gun 20/65 twin.

I am just wondering if this would look even better with a wood dye/varnish rather then the usual great coat of paint I dare say it will be having.
