I'm getting back to working on this old dio.

I've re-sized the land section, extending it a little farther out into the water to accommodate the spacing for the LCM-8 that is on the dock.

I've re-done the smaller, double utility building and added some fences. I first added the curbing to lay out the street patterns and I'm using Testors sand paper for the texture of the non-concrete portions of the diorama and then painting the sand paper in the appropriate tones. From experience, I'm finding that the plastic-backed Testors sand paper adheres better to the styrene with CA glue than the paper-backing of other sand papers.

I wish that it was finished, already, myself. Many other projects have taken priority in the past few years since starting this one. There is still a lot of work to go.

Some nice, little white metal cars for my diorama!

These are 1/60" = 1' or 1/720 scale.

They are a little expensive, in my opinion. A pack of 40 "Generic Cars" (two different types, a sedan and a coupe) is $32.50 and a minimum order of $50.00. Ouch! I ordered 7 of the 1/720 "Van Trucks" too, but they sent me ones that are of a larger scale.

Great stuff Carl. The dio is really taking shape. Those little trucks sure are pricey. But i'm sure it will be worth it in the long run.

Since this scene looks picture-perfect and ultra realistic, to stay true to realism are you going to place a passed out drunken sailor under a tree or any other common shenanigans taking place???

I couldn't like this more! Looks absolutely perfect for 99% of US military instalations. the "storage in the open" looks exactly like the supply area at Camp Lejeune, where I loaded my (at the time girlfriend's, now ex-wife's) car trunk up with a couple of AT-4 rockets (spent, I swear), a few thousand square feet of camo net, and about 10,000 rounds of ammo that the books said we expended in the middle east. Good times were had by all. Oh, and to top it all off was a door to a HUMVEE that I intended to paint "nose art" onto but never got around to it. All I told the ex was if she got pulled over to say that her Marine boyfriend took the car for a day and she had no clue what was in the back.
