Just another config to take note of.

I was wondering how long this was going to take to get out. This picture was taken during Friendship Day between the US military and Japan this last weekend.

It was deleted for the Flight IIAs with the Harpoon in order to keep the cost of the Flight IIA down. Both capabilities could be backfitted if necessary. As we see, TACTAS is now being back-fitted.

Hi all,

I'm in the process of building a 1:72 AB (probably Truxtun at this stage) and am after some help with details. The two areas that I'm laking any info on is the flag deck area behind the bridge under the mast and the bridge wings. I'm after any photo's or detail drawings etc that show the equipment and layout in these areas. There seem to be plenty of photos and info for most of the other areas of the ships but next to none that I can find of these areas.

Any and all help most appreciated.

Cheers,
Garry.

I am looking for the Remote Mine-hunting System (RMS) parts that came with the Trumpeter USS Momsen kit. The parts are P-4, P-5, P-8, P-9, P-12, P-13, P-14 and P-15. If you built the ship but closed the bay door and did not display the RMS, I could use them for another project. Many thanks and I can be reached directly at crlandrum(at)earthlink.net.

I just received the Hobby Boss Arleigh Burke 1:700 kit. Very nice little kit for $23 plus shipping. The PE is a little weak but typical for what you get in kits that include PE. I would not call this a scaled down version of the Trumpeter kit which is something I hear often about Hobby Boss. It has fewer parts but they are well molded and protected for shipping. I ordered the Flyhawk PE set to detail it up which cost just as much unfortunately. But I think it will be worth it.

I just got the Hobby Boss Arleigh Burke as well. They look very nice and HB apparently made extensive use of slide molds as most of the upper works are one piece. I am disappointed, however, in that much of the mast structures are PE instead of plastic. It seems that these structures would be 3 dimensional and PE is way too thin.

I have also got the Hobby Boss kit - I consider it much better than the old PitRoad kit currently sold by Dragon.

Unfortunately they do not PE parts to the SPG-62.

I appear to show Arleigh Burke in a very early fit, but contains later satellite antenna and something, which could be a 25 mm Bushmaster (not mentioned in the instructions).

I want to make a diorama of two Burkes conducting RAS, transfering ammo or other items from one ship to the other...

Does anyone have anything helpful like photos or plans? Some sketches would be nice, such as the arrangement of the personnel on decks, rigging diagrams etc

Hey, Nick!

I arm and disarm ships all the time. I think your Navy and mine do things the same way.

Dave, I could not agree more but my Navy does not have Arleigh Burkes (   ). Assuming that procedures are according to NATO standards and publications :wink_1: and heaving read the NSTM publication regarding RAS equipment, the only thing missing is the arrangement of personel on deck. That is what I am looking for... :thumbs_up_1:

The best kit is the new Hobby Boss offering. Regarding photoetch, I would wait for something to come up for the Hobbyboss kit, but I believe that someone can make do with generic fittings in this scale for this type of ship...

Ah! I see. It's very nearly the same no matter the ship type. If it's helos, they drop stuff on the white circle on the helo deck. If it's kingposts, the load lands at the base of the kingpost. Personnel involved with either operation just find somewhere safe to stand, and anyone not involved has to leave that part of the ship.

So, not very many people are on deck at all. When doing vertrep there are 4 to 5 people standing too the sides waiting for the load to come down and make contact with the deck with 1 supervisor to the side and 1 or 2 safety guys standing close by.

Sometimes there is aCWO or a Chief yelling and screaming and distracting everyone and making a safe situation unsafe.

That's pretty much it.
