Calling all Udaloy-class (Фрегат-M) & Sovremennyy-class (сарыч) fans

I love the Russian Sovremenny and Udaly Class destroyers. Currenty im planning on getting both classes to add to my modern 1/350 destroyer fleet. For the Sovremenny class im goin to build Project 956E and for the Undaloy class its going to be the Admiral Panteleyev.

For when I do build them, what color is the hull and what type of brown is the deck?

Celestialsphere, don't suppose we could tempt you to consider building in a somewhat larger scale?

Here we have the a number of Udaloy class destroyers in 1:72. There is also a 1:72 Sovremenny under construction.

There is even a supplier of Sovremenny and Udaloy hulls in Australia, together with a significant number of fittings.

I've only recently started ship model making after many years of planes and tanks.

This is my current project in the scratchbuilding forum;

I reckon the Udaloys look fantastic, and would be tempted to build a 1/72nd scale version except at 2.2 metres long I'd have trouble explaning the storage/display requirements to 'her indoors'. And more importantly two small boys would be lurking over the horizon in attack mode. Their destructive power would total around a scale megaton at least in 1/72 scale !

So for the moment I'll stick to 1/350 and nurse a few dreams

Hi Mick, I can ask my frend, if he can build for you the hull in sclae1/72. He has original shipyard plans of hull.
And he can build for you hull in scale 1/100 of the project 1155 "Fregat" (It is oficial name of this project). The price ca. 300� without delivery cost.

Deck of the Admiral Panteleyev is not painted metall.

Hi everyone..
Now i own the 1/200 Sovremenny (Export Version)..
I noticed the very bad shape of the hull.It somehow too round everywhere and the two typical corner lines on the hullsides are bad molded.So i`ll need to reshape the hull to give it a more straight look.
Do you guys have any usefull plants or drawts of the hull?
What i�ve found is of bad resolution.

Trumpeters version seems to be made by copy the "Okrilinny" Destroyer..
I want to build an version,which is still in use: Bespokoynny,Nastoichevy,Gremashiy,Burniy,Boevoy,Bistriy or Bezboazniy.
I hope i can convert it somehow to one of them.

Any drawing that can be posted here would be too small to be of use to you beyond a very general representation. Sovremenny plans are fairly common on the Internet if you do a bit of searching. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to any but I've come across several over the years.

You've already identified some of the hull problems. Be aware that there are severe fit problems between the major superstructure parts and the hull. Also, many or most of the components are incorrect in shape or placement. This is a badly flawed kit so you should know that going in and either be ready to accept it's limitations or be ready to do some serious scratch building. Either way, good luck!

Well, i've found some 1/50 drawts made by G.Shermenetjeva.They are the only i could find.They are for the "Okriliny" version. They are the right one for the Sovremenny which is presented by Trumpeter (wider forefront,different deck design etc.)
Too bad this kit is such crap..There is nothing right on it..It�s needed to be cut off from beginning from 1/3 of the hull..the forefront is completly wrong,even the windows are too high placed everywhere.
That�s gonna be a wild ride to get it all right..

Hi,

Does anyone know if Marshal Shaposhnikov ever had the (what I think is called Strut Pair) radar on top of her foremast? All the others of the class seem to have it. But she appers to always have a simple looking, round, concave dish on top of her foremast.

Also, what does this round dish do, and since none of the others in the class have it, is it any good at what it does? Or is it junk?

I've been looking over all those same pics. It's always the round dish except for that one with the pole for the dish, but no dish. I haven't been able to find any mention of it anywhere. I can't see them removing one of their main radar sets for this thing. This doesn't even look like radar. It looks to me like a back yard satellite tv dish. Could you use sats for the same function as a passive radar, letting the sats search and track for you and then relay results to you? There also doesn't seem to be any sort of node in front of it for it to focus signal on if it is a receiver.

Looks mostly like a satellite reception disc. Not sure if they were going to keep the surface radar after all. Perhaps they just ditched it while using their normal navigation radars for surface detection. Another option is also that they weren't going to use their Rastrubs for anti-surface after all, and without any anti-surface missile, you don't need an anti-surface radar. The navigation radar would suffice in range and accuracy for the guns.
Why exactly they only did it on this ship, that's still a question though. Perhaps she was more of a squadron leader, with the dish enhancing her communication abilities towards HQ, while relying on other ships for anti-surface defence?

I have some more information for everyone. The Trumpeter instructions say to put a small dish on both sides of the lowest platform of the foremast. From what I can tell, this is the dish that is on top of Shaposhnikov's foremast. I have only spotted it in one other location and that is on the lower right side of Panteleyev's foremast in the pictures newer than 2008 at navsource. I have also noticed that a few of the ships have recieved satellite upgrades in 2008+ pictures. In the case of Shaposhnikov I see when they removed the small dish from the top of the foremast they put a new small (at one point white) dome on the roof of the bridge, on the left side, at the base of the screech. I can't determine if there is one on the right side or not. There is also a larger dome added on both sides of the bridge, further out towards the edge, elevated on a short pole. So I guess the dish was for satellite reception.
