HI Jim THANKS for the welcome an the kind comments an it must be fantastic to see the ships all lit up at night i have only ever been there in the day time out on the watertaxi but my wife an i really enjoyed ourselves an i hope to come down to portsmouth later in yr in my touring caravan

here all sprayed up in top colours

an now the deck an i always paint the model white inside as its makes it easy to spot any lose wires that may have come adrift

HI AGAIN guys
now this gadget is a sevo fitted with a red cam that activates the knock on switches as it turns from commands from my R/C an it works these functions

no 1 bridge lights an nav lights an running lights on mast
no 2 starts all four radars
no 3 switches on red 2mm anti collision LED's on all masts
no 4 ll ll helo motor an hanger bay lights
no 5 ll ll all white LED's floodlights
an this unit is fitted in the bow sec of hull under the seadart launcher

Hi,
great to see this build. I'm pretty curious about that smoke unit as I was kind of planning to use one too. So a few questions about that.
What brand is it? And how does it work?
Does it give any pressure to the smoke or does it "float out" by itself? And what is creating the smoke? A special type of liquid I assume? And does it consume a lot?

A small remark/ Question:
Are you sure about that plimsol/draught mark ? Normally it should be in the middle of your perpendiculars, never seen one placed aft... Don't even know if it applies for warships, never really looked at it and can't quite remember seeing it on most warships either.
And the green light on the aft part, just in front of the funnel, is that there in reality? Do you know what its purpose is? (according to regulations there should be only one green sidelight on starboard (with a back-up mostly installed on top of each other in the same place)
Great ship nonetheless, very nice work and use of different materials. Love those in-progress pictures too, gives a good view of the massive amount of work involved in building something like this!

on these matters i used moddler's licence as just trying to make the model more intresting WELL SPOTTED an it shows to me you have really been studying the model pics.Now onto the subject of the smoke unit well its a HUNTER SYSTEMS SMOKE UNIT an i run it on 12v power an it run for about 10 to 15 mins an it gets v-hot an it ues's a special blend of hunter's smoke oil which you buy in a fair sized bottle from hunter systems an they last quite a while.Now im not sure how it works but it seems to me it builds up pressure an blows the smoke up the tube into the funnel an as you can see from pics it works quite well an i was v-pleased with the effect if you want to get one an want their address i think i can find it for you just let me know.Well i hope that answered your questions an thank you for takeing the time to look at my post

Hi all i am a newbie an this is my first build post on this forum an its HMS EDINURGH scratchbuild in 1/64 semi scale an i have used a bit of moddelers licence on the lighting as this is a working model but i hope you will like it just a few pics to start

Hello Chris,

You've assembled a beautiful model, I will reference the above photo and mention a few things that are probably unknown by folks who don't or haven't spent a number of years on a warship at sea.

Right now, in fact, my ship is at "Flying Stations", and a Sea King CH-124B landed above my head a few minutes ago, the rotors are still spinning and they just shut down one engine. (The joys of (slow) internet access at sea.)

Anyhow, a few minor points, that may be worth pondering on future projects:

Point 1. During flying stations, particularly when the helo is running, the hangar door is ALWAYS closed.

Point 2. Helos in the hangar go in nose first, rather than tail first. There isn't generally enough space to spin them around on the flight deck, and the traversing gear (RAST or "Beartrap") is what is used to traverse the helo. (This may be different in UK service.)

Point 3. The pipe over the PA system on the ship for Flying Stations is: "Flying stations, weather decks abaft the hangar are out of bounds. Off Caps." There would be no-one on the upper decks wearing a cap or hat during flying stations. Even the OOW on the bridge takes his/hers off.

Point 4. When launching/recovering the helo, the guardrails on the flight-deck are lowered, ie instead of pointing up, they're pointing out (they hinge at the base).

I don't mean to come across and tell you that your magnificent project is bad in any way, these are detail points that those of us in uniform know, and because they're so routine to us, we don't think to mention or document them.

I'll see if I can dig up a couple of photos of our helo ops that I might be able to share the next time I'm in port.

You have done a fantastic job on this, and your attention to detail is a delight to see, thanks for sharing!!
